Title: Searching for Launcelot Lowther
Post by: JonLowther on Thursday 07 July 05 22:01 BST (UK)
I am searching for a Launcelot Lowther who may have been born in Co Meath in 1775. We believe that he appears later on in Bradford-on-Avon, Wiltshire.

Any help would be much appreciated

Hello JonLowther,

There are three items you require when searching for Irish ancestors.

1. Denomination.
2. Parish
3. Townland.

You'll have to rely on Church records as civil registration in Ireland was not introduced until 1864. Non Catholic marriages were registered from 1845 onwards. When registration for BDMS started in 1864 some people didn't bother with the registration for a few years after that date. Keep your fingers crossed that church records still exist.

Hi Jon,

I have a George Percy, Esq. of co. Leitrim (son of Alexander Percy & Elizabeth Crofton) who married a daughter of Launcelot LOWTHER of Clover Hill in the county of Leitrim. Don't have verified dates, but the time frame seems right.

I also have (from Crofton sources) that Olivia (living 1780) second dau. of Edward Crofton married Launcelot Lawder, of Cloverhill.

Anything there ring a bell?

Peggy

Welcome to Rootschat, Peggy. Unfortunately Jon never responded to Christopher's post and hasn't been online since April 2008. Perhaps someone else will see your message and be able to help.
