I've just finished a biographical sketch for Archibald McLister (1819-1896), of county Antrim, and posted it to my web site (Arborealis: www.arborealis.ca), at:
http://www.arborealis.ca/resources/biographies/mclister-mcclister/archibald-mclister.html (http://www.arborealis.ca/resources/biographies/mclister-mcclister/archibald-mclister.html)
This article is fully sourced, and © Alison Kilpatrick.
We do not know Archy's townland and parish of origin. Hopefully, a reader will the connection.
I am not descended from Archy: he married our great great aunt, Mary Kilpatrick (1837-1887), of Lislea townland, parish of Kilrea, county Derry. Archy's and Mary's descendants went on to Akron, Ohio, Salt Lake City, Utah, and Los Angeles, California.
Cheers,
Alison

Hi Alison, heres the same reply I gave on Rootsweb today
I am fairly sure its also spelt McLester in Co Antrim in early records
Archy’s townland and parish is most likely being one of the following
Altilevelly or Ballyrickard, Beg in Raloo
Ballyloran in Larne
Craigs or Mullans in in Finvoy
Main Street,Broughshane in Racavan
see a census substitute Griffiths Primary valuation, there are two websites
http://www.failteromhat.com/post1845.php who spells it with a space after the Mc.
Then for the more detailed website which has often map references to the homestead try http://www.askaboutireland.ie/griffith-valuation which has a few more as some are as landlord or sub landords
Another credit paying website has a marriage entry

MCLISTER ARCHIBALD 1865
that's all for now i have run out of time

The surname is often McLeister or McAllister in Ulster. Since Archibald McLister left Ireland in the 1850s then then 1865 marriage is of little or no use.
Not sure where this list came from/is based on but the only one geographically close to Lislea where Mary Kilpatrick was from is Mullan near Finvoy. If it is based on Griffith's Valuation then likely to be too late to be the correct Archibald.

Hi Aghadowey and Alison, my apologies for my lack of quoting my sources in the right place, the simplified results were the combined results of searches on both Griffiths websites, and were an attempt to find the most likely search headings for further searches i.e. townlands and civil parishes that might be relevant providing other relatives stayed on. This sometimes works, unless the family were in a terrible famine disaster area where all the relatives died or emigrated. I omitted to say I found no Archibald in Griffiths and wasnt looking for him unless he had an ancestor of the same name. My next step would be to search some thirty years earlier in the irish Tithe Applotment records http://www.irishgenealogyhub.com for variant spellings in those parishes. Thank you for suggesting variant spellings of McLeister or McAllister. If no other suggestions arise, then if Alison wants to further search both Griffiths websites and make a further short list, and add them to my short list, and then go through the Irish tithes applotment records parish by parish she might be lucky to find mention of the surnames names, making a pathway to surviving church records. Mullan or Mullans in Finvoy seem the best place to try.
Good luck BallyaltikilliganG

Thank you for your notes.
The spelling variants for this surname are numerous. :P
There were so many Daniel and Archibald McListers (et al) that perhaps the best result will come from a family Bible or another family historian's research. I made the post on this off-chance.
Cheers,
Alison
