I've always liked this one

"Why, Sir, you find no man, at all intellectual, who is willing to leave London. No, Sir, when a man is tired of London, he is tired of life; for there is in London all that life can afford."

So said Samuel Johnson as he talked with Boswell about the pros and cons of the latter making a permanent move to London

They survived the Blitz
They survived the IRA
They will survive Al Quaeda

When will these people learn you can't kill democracy.

My thoughts are with those who were affected by the events of today.

I live in London and know how I felt until I could confirm my relatives working in the areas hit were O.K.  I can't begin to comprehend how some families are feeling this evening.

When will this senseless killing end?

Wise words from my 86 year old neighbour, holder of The Burma Star  " the people who did this are the worst kind of cowards "

Those who have been effected are in our prayers, and I thank God my bro & Dean got home safe.

Good will overcome evil.

God bless our emergency services, what would we do without them, they may have been prepared for this for a long time but I'm sure they always hoped they wouldn't be needed.

My thoughts for the victims and their families echo those of everyone else and my anger at these atrocities cannot be put into words.   Two weeks ago I was at Kings Cross, Russell Square and Edgware Road - it doesn't bear thinking about!

Let us hope that the perpetrators are quickly brought to justice!

 I too send my prayers and condolences in the wake of this new tragedy. If you have a connection to London, I  hope and pray you everyone you know and love is okay.  What a terrible thing to happen...I just can't understand it.

I also have family working in London, but thankfully they are all okay.  I have a friend on holidays there with her mother and haven't yet heard how they are.

There is quite a good poem about yesterday's events, written by a listener on the Radio London website.  It is just called "London Pride"

This has been forwarded to me - I share it with you all.

When I am dead, my dearest,
Sing no sad songs for me;
Plant thou no roses at my head,
Nor shady cypress tree:
Be the green grass above me
With showers and dewdrops wet;
And if thou wilt, remember,
And if thou wilt, forget.

I shall not see the shadows,
I shall not feel the rain;
I shall not hear the nightingale
Sing on, as if in pain;
And dreaming through the twilight
That doth not rise nor set,
Happily I may remember,
And never will we forget

Keep it up, Londoners!!!

Your attitude is inspiring.  The terrorists do not realise what a hopeless task they have taken on in trying to break your spirit.  Wonderful stuff!

Cougar

That's a lovely verse.   It reminds me of another one which is often quoted at times like these:

Do not stand at my grave and weep,
I am not there, I do not sleep.

I am a thousand winds that blow,
I am the diamond glint on snow.
I am the sunlight on ripened grain,
I am the gentle autumn rain.

When you awaken in the morning’s hush,
I am the swift uplifting rush
of quiet birds in circled flight.
I am the soft stars that shine at night.

When you see the sun set fair
I am the scented evening air.
I am the joy of a task well done,
I am the glow of the setting sun.

Do not stand at my grave and weep,
I am not there, I do not sleep.
Do not stand at my grave and cry,
I am not there, I did not die.

I had a text from my friend in France on Thursday night to say they were frantic with worry as her sister and brother-in-law were holidaying in Brittany and couldn't contact their daughter on the phone.  They eventually traced her yesterday evening in one of the hospitals.  Apparently she had been standing at the bus stop, where the bus was that blew up.  She sustained cuts and bruises and shock.

They flew home this morning.

My heart goes out to eveyone who was there that day, including the emergency services doctors and nurses, who themselves must be traumatised by the days events.  God Bless all of you.
