Can anyone please help find Edward & Ellen Griffiths (formerly Bromilow) after 1871
Edward Griffiths was born in Hope Flintshire in 1836 his parents were Edward & Mary Griffiths, Edward married Ellen Bromilow on 19 June 1867 in The Parish Church Deane Lancashire, Ellen’s father ‘s name was Joseph Bromilow and Ellen was born about 1848 in Lostock, Lancashire,
I have them on census up to 1871 then can’t find them on any others, they had a daughter I know about and have her birth certificate, on the 1881 census Daughter Ellen Griffiths is with her fathers sister as adopted daughter .
So I am wondering what happen to Edward & Ellen Griffiths I can’t find a death for them or any other census after 1871.
I would appreciate any help with this couple please , I have not been doing my family history for a while so I am a bit rusty.

The 1871 gives Edwards birthyear as 1839/40 - he is 31
they had a daughter I know about and have her birth certificate,
What was the daughters name and birthyear/birthplace? In 1881, is she in England or Wales

His marriage gives 1839 as well. I can't see them in 1881, but can't see any deaths either.

I suspect Ellen died in childbirth or shortly after. Looking back at previous posts daughter Ellen was born in June Qtr 1875 in Barrow in Furness. There is a death registered for an Ellen Griffiths in the same quarter aged 26 Ulverston Volume 8e page 523. If you go to www.cumbriabmd.org.uk you will see that both events took place in the sub district of Dalton.
Haven`t found Edward though

Could just be that he couldn't cope with a baby and so relatives took her in as their own. He may well have moved and remarried by 1881.

In the Manchester Times dated 25th February, 1898 under "Missing Friends"
GRIFFITHS - Edward Griffiths, when last heard of was living in Barrow in Furness. The inquirer is his niece Ellen Griffiths.
I saw that Ellen said her father was deceased when she married so perhaps none of the family knew where he went to.

That's interesting as Ellen Griffiths was actually his daughter and not his niece wasn't she? I wonder if he emigrated? Whatever happened, it doesn't sound as if he kept in touch with either his daughter or family.

I would like to thank you all and say how much I appreciate all your help, sorry for not replying before now but my friend was getting confirmed after 79 years! They say you are never too old.
I only knew they had daughter Ellen who was born on the 25 February 1885 on the birth certificate and Edward was still Joiner then by trade, her name was Ellen daughter of Edward Griffiths Joiner and Ellen Griffiths formerly Bromilow, and they were living at 83 Albert Street, Barrow.
Not quite sure about Edwards birth he puts age 28 years on the marriage certificate and Ellen is 19 years, Edward was baptised on the 24 July 1836 at Hope Flintshire, but it does not give his birth.
I wonder if it was Ellen the daughter who advertised in the paper, I'm sure it must have been.
So they had other children beside Ellen who died young.
Thank you all once again I will digest all the information you have given me now. :)

I am sure you are correct about this one, I have searched for hours trying to find a death for Ellen but never thought about being registered in Cumbria, going to send for that certificate then I will know, so many thanks.
Edwards sister would be a good choice to look after Ellen, not having any children of her apart from one that died when a few months old.

I may have the wrong marriage :-\
22 February 1893 St Thomas, Preston, Lancashire, England
Herbert Cookson - 24, Labourer, Bachelor, 248 North Road
Ellen Griffiths - 19, Domestic Servant, Spinster, 282 North Road
Groom's Father: John Cookson, Farmer
Bride's Father: Edward Griffiths, (Deceased), Cabinet Maker
Witnesses Henry Turner and Eliza Rachel Turner
Married by Banns by: Walter J. Lake M. A.

Possibly the correct marriage ~ the family were living on North Road in 1881 census, but were near Kirkham in 1891. Possible move back to Preston for work.
Later census records for the couple show Ellen/Helen born Barrow.

Many thanks again Mo , I agree with Claire it does look good for Ellen's marriage, I have applied for the death certificate for mother Ellen at Ulverston because I think that looks good, so here goes in for penny in for a few pounds I will apply for the marriage certificate also. :) :)
