Hi Annmarie

I believe that Mike is suggesting that he could pass your email address along with a short note (if you care to give brief details on dates and places) on to those people to whom you think there may be a connection.  They could then contact you direct if they think there may be a connection.

Best wishes

Hi again Annmarie

We may be able to help you on the road to finding out something more about your grandfather ................ Frederick Joseph WRENCH ..........

Do you know when/where he was born?
Do you know when/where he died?

You say that you don't know when he and your gran married - there could well be some good clues as to his origins on the marriage certificate so do you have any idea when/where their eldest child was born?  This might help you to try and guess when and where a likely marriage took place.

Best wishes

Casalguidi,

Thanks, that is what I meant. I've done that before for another user.

With safety in mind I did suggest straight away to this user in a PM that they remove the email address from the first post. She tried but I think you beat her to it.

Hi there. well managed to get some info on my surname Wrench.

My granda was Fredrick Jacob Wrench born 5 Jan 1926 at Haverton Hill England and died 28th July 1984 Derry Northern Ireland.
His father was also called Fredrick and his mother was Ethel. cant find there birth dates etc.
My nana and granda were married on 10th July in england (have to find dates out yet) and there eldest child was Pamela who is now nearly 50 something.

Hi Annmarie,

Another wee suggestion is Ancestry.com. There's no fees to join and they have a message board dedicated to the surname Wrench.

You might get a connection from one of the other people who are also searching for this name.

God Luck!

Hiya Annmarie,

Have you discovered anything more about your Grand Dad or his parents?

I've just posted a link on the Donegal board about the  Congested Districts Board.  (http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?topic=232400.msg1241805#msg1241805) The article in the link refers to a Mr Wrench, a member of the board, attending a horse show in Belfast in 1897 and meeting a businessman called Alexander Morton who came from Scotland. As a result of their discussion Mr Morton opened a carpet factory in Killybegs.

I've no further details about Mr Wrench at the moment but am sure there must be a way to find out more about the members of the Congested Districts Board. A book was published by the Four Courts Press in November, 2005 by Ciara Breathnach called "The Congested Districts Board, 1891 - 1923" which might mention Mr Wrench and the role he played on the Board.

The full birth marriage and death indexes are free to search on
http://www.ancestry.co.uk/search/rectype/vital/freebmd/bmd.aspx

So you should be able to find your grandparents births, marriage etc or at least those that took place in England and Wales!

For example I have looked thru marriages 1946-57.

There is only one Frederick J Wrench
It is Jul/Aug/SEp 1948, Durham S E area, ref 1a 2066
The bride's name is Maureen Glackin

Getting the marriage cert would give you details of each of their fathers.

Their daughter's birth is easy to find - I will post details by PM as she is still alive (I assume). You can go thru the indexes and find all six children if you wish!
