Hi,
my 2 x great grandmother was born in the Quarry House, in Lambley, and whilst searching for maps and photos came across one entitled The Diamond oak in Lambley, showing a majestic oak tree.
Does anyone know why it is so named?
The reason being, my 3x great grandmother was named Diamond.
Thanks in advance

Hi,
When was your 3x great grandmother born. 1897 seems to be a popular year for the name Diamond which was Queen Victoria's Diamond Jubilee. This site suggests that the oak tree is about 250 years old. https://geolocation.ws/v/W/File%3AThe%20Diamond%20Oak%20-%20geograph.org.uk%20-%201534323.jpg/-/en

It is called the Diamond Oak on the 1865 map, so obviously not named after Queen Victoria's Diamond Jubilee. I wonder if it was planted to mark a Diamond anniversary connected to the family of Featherstone Castle. http://maps.nls.uk/view/102346467#zoom=6&lat=851&lon=11440&layers=BT

Hi thanks for answering, my x Great Grandmother was called Mary Ann Diamond, her father was Matthew Diamond born about 1795 though I haven't proved where yet. Family connections suggest either Northumberland, Carlisle (where he died) or Scotland.
Thank you everyone for the links and help
