Title: Gregor McGregor of Rannoch
Post by: bonatello on Friday 17 April 15 11:31 BST (UK)
Looking for information on my 4xGreat granddfather Gregor McGregor  ..... He was a gamekeeper and had a daughter, my ancestor Christina McGregor in Rannoch  in the mid 1820's with Isabella McPherson , they were not married at least at that time ...Christina went on to marry Angus McBain in Kingussie , settling in Blairgowrie after he died young ( either her or him must have been married before as stepchildren appear with them in a census in 1851) ... any help would be appreciated.... Cheers

On the 1851 census Christina was noted as born 1823 Kingussie, Invernessshire, which is where her marriage took place to Angus McBain in 1849. Their son William was born there in 1851, the step children's surnames were McKay & Fraser.

In 1861 the wife of Angus is noted as Margaret McBain, two of the children from 1851 are present noted as son & daughter but the details vary. There are 3 children present born after 1851, including a Christina.

I cannot find a birth record for Christina in Perthshire or Invernessshire. Therefore no details to work on for her parents.

hello again Colin :)

Here is Christina's first marriage:

William Mckay & Christian McGregor married 7 July 1842 Kingussie & Insch
Children:
Margt. Mckay b. 1 Nov 1841, baptised 7 Jan 1842 Kingussie & Insch
Evan (Hugh) Mckay b. 1 Nov 1841, baptised 7 Jan 1842 Kingussie & Insch
William Mckay b. 21 Jun 1843, baptised 26 Oct 1843 Kingussie & Insch

These records are from family search.  Images of the original Parish Register entries should be  available from scotlands people.  There is only one suitable William Mckay showing 1841 in Kingussie at the “Outhouse for Servants”

William Mckay 25 Servant b. Inverness shire

Christina has Rannoch down as her birthplace in 1871 , 1881 and 1891 but she seems to alternate between her maiden name McGregor and her married surname McBain ....
