Title: Strange name and a few other bits
Post by: Seoras on Thursday 16 April 15 20:35 BST (UK)
What I have so far is James Wardlaw, Cloathiar (clothier I'm thinking).

Next two are his wife's name, Bessie Stirk.

Then a.d.n. which I know from other parts of the page is abbreviation for ' a daughter named'

Then is the name 'Tunnoetae'  :o ???  What kind of name is that!!!

Then witnesses Robert Stainford ? and George Trotter ( I'm happy with Trotter, they pop in and out of my line. I even have an ancestor with it as a first name) .What are the next two words, their joint profession, but what? I thought the first word was 'boy'.

Then Daniel ( can't make out the surname) he also seems to be a clothier. Then Michael (can't make out the surname). He seems to have the same profession as Robert and George.

Any thoughts anyone, especially on that name. IGI transcribes it as Tunnoetae.

They are both soy(?) weavers.

I'll have to take your word for it Richard. I can't see that no matter how hard I look. It would fit in with his James' trade though.

Thank you.

Thanks whiteout, clayton, CAJ and GR2.

Sey weaver sounds good and would fit in nicely with the clothier.

;D ;D ;D don't think any of my lot ever sold ice cream Skoosh. Most of them couldn't afford to eat it.

How are you pal, well I hope.

Quite liking clayton's Toinette, sounds a bit French and Scotland did have connections there.

Damn it! Pardon my French, Italian....no Scottish-Gaelic version here :D See Diagram:

Tunno/Autunno: autumn in Italian, per Google Translate (not my linguistic knowledge)

It is probably just a spelling derivative, as per quote, has been bugging me!

My first thought was Polynesian , but on looking at the date it cant be the case.

Then Latin took a turn and I noted  tu ' you'  natae can be 'born' you were born.

But all in all what a strange name for a wee Scottish lass.  :)

Thanks for your input Whipby and dgibbins. It's her brother George I am more interested in. Her other two siblings ( or the one's I can find ) are just plain Janet and Barbara.
