Lancs OPC site has the following baptism:-

George Henry Tranter baptised 22/06/1905 son of Ann Ellen Tranter baptised at St Thomas Pendleton. The notes say "William was crossed out as father's name".

Do you have the family on the 1911 census Racheal? We are not allowed to post details from it on here, due to copyright reasons I think.

Are there any other relatives on the 1911 entry who you could find on earlier censuses which might lead you back to George?

yes i do have the 1911 census. this puzzles me. ann ellen tranter is married to william henry moreton by then.  they have a couple of other children and are lodging with joe seddon. also living with them is  mary a tranter. (presumably sister.

mary alice tranter was born 20 feb 1901 to joseph tranter and mary (skelton) (i have her birth cert)
i can find HER in 1901 at peel buildings salford, with mother widowed and sisters, one of whom could be my annie ellen.

BUT..... there seems to be no marriage, anywhere, for tranter/ skelton (whether the father was george or joseph)

You have the right family in 1901 - Richard went on to join the Royal Tank Corp. gave his next of kin as: Mother 26 Marple Street Pendleton as of 1911, he died 1920 in Salford.

thanks, the 1901 family was the only one that made sense.

can you find a marriage for mary skelton and a tranter (george or joseph)
do you think they may not have been married?

there is a joseph tranter in 1911 census in the workhouse in salford. could this be the father, although in 1901 mary said she was widowed?

ideas?

ok so ive traced richards next of kin, where he says mother, 9 marple street. is actually annie ellen moreton.

the mother, mary (skelton) tranter doesnt seem to die until 1927. but she is unfindable in 1911.

possibly a suffragette? would be my 1st one if so, although the birth cert i have says she is illiterate.

 :) :) :)

Tough group to find in 1891 aren't they.

If the 1901 is correct-that's one huge gap between births.

Don't suppose you could try for Richard's birth cert ??

yes they are proving difficult to find. :)

i agree with the big age gap, that why i bought the youngests birth cert, mary alice, as i thought she might be the illegitimate daughter of my annie ellen.

there is a george tranter dying 1898 in salford, that could be the father of my annie ellen, but then mary alices birth cert say joseph tranter as father.....

arggghhhh :)

yes i think im gonna need more certificates

thanks for the sympathy argghh :) hehe

yes the address on the birth cert matches the 1901 census, 3 peel buildings, salford.

its just the fathers that need sorting out now i think.... and finding the mothers marriage....and the 1891 census....

perhaps joseph tranter was the brother in law, lending a comforting erm, and then along comes mary alice in 1901.
grasping at straws now lol

Hi,  Mary Tranter, Marple Street father George, marries Thomas Doherty in 1908 Salford, mother maybe Mary ( Skelton )
George looks as though he's living in Bryan Street,Hanley,Stoke on Trent with uncle James in 1881 even tho' his birth is listed Hanley.
George along with Joseph, Ellen (married and living in Stoke), and others, children of Thomas Tranter and Ann Atherton married Saint Mary's Eccles 1854.
Bro' Joseph looks a sad life and maybe Mary Alice's dad, maybe his wife Elizabeth Owen and son Thomas in ' Lodgings ' in Hankinson Street,Pendleton 1901.

I have a Richard Tranter and Athertons in my Tree tho' no connections so far.

George Tranter 1860 - 1898 and Joseph Tranter 1858 - 1915 look good bets  :)
