Hi List,
Is anyone able to help me with BDM info for Richard Standen/Standing (circa 1792)and Alice Overington circa (1785) and their families. I believe their children were William, Richard, Henry, Charles, and Jane. I believe Charles married a girl named Mary and had a family living in Fittleworth up until 1861. All help appreciated.
Thanks
Kate

Have you found a baptism of Charles to Richard and Alice? I only have the other four children.

Just found some Fittleworth records on familysearch.
A Charles Standean (sic ) was baptised at Fittleworth on 23 Jan 1813. Mother Avice Standean. No father mentioned. So is this a mistranscription for Alice Standen, if so why no mention of Richard he was still alive? Richard and Alice baptised their son Richard at Fittleworth in June 1813, just six months after Charles's baptism.

Hi Lizzie,
I believe that baptism you found is correct for Charles. I found a bastardy order for a Richard Standen who allegedly deserted his wife and three children. I am assuming it is the same Richard who died the same year that it had been placed. If he was a bargeman he may have been away for his sons baptism or perhaps he was in gaol, or who knows?
The trickiest problem that I have is trying to locate records for Alice and Richards son Henry. Alice petitioned for clemency when Henry was convicted for larceny and sentenced to death. His sentence was commuted to transportation for life. I have never been able to find a baptism or birth record for him.
If I could locate transcriptions for Coldwatham, Bury and Wiseborough Green I may get somewhere I suspect. That is where his siblings and parents records draw from.
I have parish records for Coates and Fittleworth which might be helpful for your Goodger search. Private message me your email and I will send them to you.

Avice and Alice might be two people and this might refer to the birth of Charles

Try joining the Sussex Family History Group to find baptisms in Coldwaltham, Bury etc. They have online transcripts for members and it is not expensive.
