Title: Where is the best place to look up news paper articles
Post by: michelina on Tuesday 14 April 15 16:45 BST (UK)
My uncle was involved in a car accident in 1962 and died and I've been told it was in the paper but I can't find anything anywhere so wondering if I'm looking in the right place
He died in 1962 aged 19 another chap was driving ( supposedly ) in Southampton ( which comes under the new forest ) his name is John W Sheehan

Any help would be grateful thank you

Hi,

If the accident happened in Southampton it was probably reported in local newspapers. The local archives would be the place to start:

The Local Studies Library on the lower ground floor of the Central Library [as with the SCC Archives  search room is in the Civic Centre but separate departments and locations]  and this library has The Echo on microfilm but you would need to check whether the date is included. Send an e mail to local.studies@southampton.gov.uk. Incidentally the City of Southampton is not part of the New Forest
