I have a marriage certificate for James Abbot born 1793 Soryard, England and married April 8, 1826 at St. James Cathedral in Kingston, Ontario, Canada. He would be my great-great-grandfather.

Another source indicates a James Abbott was originally from London, England.
So I'm guessing that Soryard might have been a village, or a street, or a mispronunciation as I can't find a place name in England using Google and other sources.
Any help much appreciated. I'd like to trace the family back further in England.

Familysearch has this possible;
James ABBOTT Christened 25 Dec 1793, St Sepulchre, London, to GEORGE/MARY
I am a bit confused with the Tree posted on your link.
It has James/Margaret having Children born before 1826 Marriage and up til 1887?
Eg;
Fred Whitney has 2 lots of Parents.
Trish :)

Thanks very much...yes...I think the tree is faulty. I've written the owner and asked about it.
Thanks for the info on James Abbott christening. It looks promising.

Do you know when he emigrated, the ships manifest may tell you where he is from.
