Hello I am trying to find any information on an uncle of mine who lived and died in Australia details are a little vague.
He was called Edwin Muir born about 1929 in England, after doing his national service he joined the Australian army around 1955 he was kicked out of the army (bad sheep of the family) Married a local Girl called Elizabeth I think and had at least 1 daughter.
There are a few articles about him on the Newspaper site and the Australian national archives detailing him Stealing an army jeep and getting kicked out of the army.
Think he died between 1975/85.
I know its very vague but any information that can be found would be most appreciated.
thanks for looking

Do you actually know that this person you are naming is actually no longer living?
There's strict privacy laws in Australia, so in many of our various Australian jurisdictions it is not possible for members of the general public to look up BDM indexes for recent deaths. "Recent" in most instances can mean within the past 30 years.
A person born about 1929 is possibly still living. I have living relatives, born in 1910. So in that sense, a person born in 1929 could well be young enough to be a child of my rellie born 1910. So it is very possible a person born 1929 and living in Australia is simply expecting their own personal privacy to be observed.
However, if you can confirm that you already know that the person is deceased, then it is likely we can help.

As I mentioned, there's eight different jurisdictions in Australia. One country, occupying an entire continent. :) :)
http://www.ryersonindex.org/ click on this live link, and it takes you to the index for death and funeral announcements for many of the newspapers, but not every death/funeral is announced in newspapers and not every newspaper has volunteers doing the indexing.

Cup, :)
I have not found any record/index etc to show that the chap in that court martial is deceased. Been looking most of this morning :) .... not all the records have been examined and so I am wondering who paid for the CM records to be examined and opened. I seem to recall that the requirement by NAA and DoD is that the person applying for these to be digitised can confirm the subject is deceased, or otherwise is actually the subject. Do you know if that practice still stands when these Mil records are being sought?
Cheers, JM

Not sure JM, maybe the OP requested the CM records. Hopefully the OP can confirm that the chap he is requesting information on is deceased.
-
My retired rellie, former archivist at NAA doesn't know either. But the CM was digitised
06 Sep 2006 (oops, no it wasn't, it was digitised on or shortly after 14 Nov 2008 ::) trust me to fail to listen carefully to rellie's phone instructions :-[ :-[ ) so it was back in the era when that info was sought by NAA.
Fingers crossed the OP will be back shortly.

Thanks everyone for all the looks so far.
I can confirm that he is dead, but unsure of the date as it was whilst i was young and my father/mother are both dead so can't confirm details.
I can also confirm his birth details as found by one of the look ups, his father was James and mother annie.
Also regarding his army records i was the one who requested them, that is how i found out about the details of his discharge.
The bits i don't know are the details of his marriage, childrens birth or his death. I think he may have died at the hands of his wife, so i thought there might of beens some new paper reports on that but i have not found any as yet.
thanks
-
:) many thanks for that confirmation.

Edwin Muir son of Anne Johnston Clark and James William Muir was my mother's brother, he stayed a short time with my parents in Newcastle upon Tyne, he was 1 of 10 children, who lived, I never met him but remember once he wrote to my mother asking for money to get back from Australia.
I understand that he lived with someone but don't think he married them, it is rumoured that he was murdered by his partner but not sure how true it is. I was also told that he tried several times to stowaway on a ship to get back

well jennifer Elle
Edwin was my fathers brother, so that would make you my cousin.
So you mother would be either aunt agnes, aunt olive, aunt violet, aunt edna or aunt sue (but i know bruce)
He did marry the lady (Elizabeth i think) in Australia after he was dishonorably discharged from the Australian army and had at least 1 child if not 2.
He was a bit of black sheep, and got into a few scrapes, rumor has it that he was told be a magistrate to either face jail or immigrate the Australia, he got assisted passage through his time doing national service.
I believe he was skilled by his wife, his daughter supposedly visited aunt Edna in England after his death with a husband(iranian or something) and their child but was asked to leave after a bit of trouble.
I do not know the exact date of uncle edwins death as the australian records are a bit piece meal and i was too young remember the details
you can private message to swap more information if the like
