Good afternoon
I am researching the children of William Dryland b1807 Hinxhill and his wife Sarah Godden-Smith b1805 Wye (maiden name Godden).
I have Ann Dryland b?1837 Hinxhill. Have her on census 1841 with her parents but then nothing!
Frances Dryland b1833 Hinxhill. She is on census as having married a Charles Dunkin but I cannot find any marriage for them.
Margaret Dryland b1837 Hinxhill. I have three possible marriages for her - a William Pilcher in 1858 Hinxhill, a John Whitewood in 1853 Hinxhill and Daniel Austen Pay 1854 Wye. To Whom did she marry? ???
I just wondered if anyone could help me with these three to start with. Many thanks for all your continuing help.

Did Ann marry Thomas JORDAN in 21st June 1856 at Sellinge?
-
In 1861 Ancestry have a Margaret Petcher of Hinxhill, 25, Visitor to William Thornby in Wye with kids, William A, 1, and Sarah A (looks like 4 mths) born in Folkestone
However FindmyPast reckon it's Harriet Pitcher, Sister, 28
Piece 516 Folio 33, Pg 13 Hse 61
If you're looking at the image on Ancestry, good luck! But FindMyPast's isn't much better.

Alternatively, there is an entry on Familysearch for the marriage with Daniel Austen Pay on film 1836328 with consistent census entries from 1881 onwards (born in Hinxhill 1835/1836)
I can have a look at that film in a couple of weeks or so
-
Film for the John Whitewood and William Pilcher marriages is 1866649 so we should be able to clear Margaret up
-
BTW in your post you have Ann born in 1837, the same year as Margaret.
From the census it looks as though she's aged 11 ie b ~1830
-
... which puts her possibly as a servant to Thomas Philpott in Canterbury in 1851
which then puts the marriage in Canterbury 1851 Q4 5 159 in the frame
Find my Past say that is to William Fedarb and while Ann Fedarb is transcribed as born Canterbury in 1861 is shown as Hinxhill in 1871
-
... and 1881
Potential death in Elham 1894 Q3 2a 515 aged 64

Hope some of this helps

If you need any info or photos of Hinxhill and Goose Green where the family lived I live a few yards from there and would only be too happy to help.
I see from the 1841 census that Wm and Sarah are living with Edward Dryland. I think this is the same Edward that died in 1848 and is buried with his wife Phoebe in Hinxhill and there is a gravestone for which I have an image and a transcription of the inscription if you'd like that too

Wow, so much info - thank you all so much. It certainly helps with having so many people out there willing and able to help.
Ann Dryland m William Fedarb 1851 Canterbury - I did wonder if I had the birth wrong - thank you for correcting me, appreciated
Sarah Dryland m William Thornby 12 Oct 1850 St Mary, Hinxhill
Frances Dryland did she marry a Charles Dunkin as I have searched everywhere for a marriage but cannot find it. There are some census though with ? her and Charles ??? There is a marriage on FBDM of a Frances but not to a Charles Dunkin! ???
Margaret Dryland - thank you for the offer of looking it up. I will await to hear, Stevie
Kate Dryland m Thomas Thornby 20 oct 1869 St Mary, Hinxhill
George Smith Dryland m Mary Ann Hills 18 Nov 1868 St Mary, Hinxhill
Which just leaves me Harriet Dryland and William Dryland to then sort out.
Grouse - a photo would be lovely to put on my database - many thanks
Once again, many thanks

No problem Loupy
I thought it weird that no wedding followed the banns but just realise the marriage transcriptions didn't cover that timeframe. I'll look the actual records at the library next time I go down there and have a hunt around for mention of any other family members whilst there

I think it's Margaret Pilcher, visitor. The 'M' of married in the status column further up the page matches the 'M' in Margaret.
There is a marriage for Margaret Dryland to a Wm Pilcher in 1858.

Might just be a coincidence but a Rev Philpott was vicar at Hinxhill when the Drylands lived there. There might be a possibility that he was related to Thomas Philpott of Canterbury and helped Ann get her position with him

Thanks Grouse - got your emails and photos and have responded.
Once again, many thanks all.

Hi
I'm descended from Sarah Dryland and William Thornby. I haven't looked at this side of my family for a while but I'm printing out this thread and when I get a chance I will get back to you. The family were in the habit of baptising children at Hinxhill even when they lived in other nearby villages.
