Title: Fresh Eyes and Opinions again..
Post by: GfL on Wednesday 18 March 15 12:51 GMT (UK)
Hi,

Twice in one day and still to do with Charles Wilson and Sarah Jane, I'd be grateful if you would take a look at the attached and see if you can make out of the surname of the Next of Kin.  To me it looks as though it says "Sister" and then "Lucy Ratchet" ???? or Lucy something.   Unfortunately, the quality is quite poor.

Thank you.

Sarah   :)

Hi,
Can you give me his date or year of birth, I have searched by Charles William and sibling Lucy and there are 31. Where was he born or lived?
Thanks
Maggsie

It looks like Sister (crossed out), then Lucy Ratchett, Roxton Farm, Immingham, Grimsby.

This looks like that one in 1901 - no Charles there in that census

Looking at the other thread I think we can eliminate that one, as Charles gives his father as Charles Wilson (deceased) on his marriage certificate of 1917. He does give his address as Roxton Farm though, so was obviously living there with his sister.

Comparing with the R in Roxton, it looks more like Patchett to me, with a stroke leading in to the "a".

However, that all appears to have been crossed out and the word Wife added - so presumably he married after the form was first completed, but at various times he, his sister and wife all had the same address.

It doesn't help with this query but I think the family are transcribed as WILLOW (A*try) in 1901-look for Charles W WILLOW age 7 born Riby.

Lucy Wilson may have been acquainted with Frank Patchett by 1911.

Free index info (but suggest you have a look at their full entries):

Lucy 1891

Riby, Caistor, Lincolnshire

Charles   Wilson   Head   Married       28    Groom Domestic Servant            Keelby,
Maria   Wilson   Wife   Married       23                                         Waltham, Lincolnshire
Lucy   Wilson   Daughter       2                                                     Waltham, Lincolnshire

So where is the Jennings coming from, I can't see a marriage?

Perhaps Lucy was born before her parents' marriage, as a Jennings?

There is a Patchett birth in Grimsby 1917 - mmn Jennings, not Wilson.

... and Kay99 who provided the extra scan.

I was just thinking it's a good job you think it's solved (I'll take your word for it  ;)) - I enjoy the deciphering, but I was really struggling to keep up with all the different names and possibilities that were flying around  ;D

Lucy Jennings married Frank Patchett 1914:

She was born March quarter 1889 the daughter of Maria Jennings.
Maria Jennings married Charles Wilson in Dec quarter 1889
Lucy appears with them as Lucy Wilson in 1891
Lucy and brother Charles W Wilson appear in 1901

She obviously used the name of her stepfather Charles Wilson, but for official things eg marriage used her real name Jennings.

Simples!!  ;D ;D ;D

Hello everyone,

Sorry for the delay in replying to you all but you know how it can get at times !

Thank you for all your work, I wasn't expecting any of that and it may help me sort out things.

Kind regards,

Sarah  :)
