My husband,s gt uncle William Liddle on the 1911 census it says he is pensioned through accident to his eyesight. He was a coal miner hewer. On the 1901 census it says he is retired coalminer hewer at the age of 33yrs. So he must have had his accident before 1901 but I cannot find anything about the accident as I don't even know which pit he worked at. He was living at 46 Bowlby Street, Houghton-le- spring at this time. Can anyone help me please?
Thank you

He would probably be working at Houghton Colliery. You can see Bowlby Street and the pit on this map http://maps.nls.uk/view/101099618#zoom=4&lat=2030&lon=6026&layers=BT

Durham's Hidden Depths site has many compensation claims. Could not find a exact match.
