Title: Poldark
Post by: catfordcrooner on Thursday 05 March 15 12:21 GMT (UK)
New series starts Sunday BBC1 9.00pm

Should be interesting for people that had relative living and working in Cornwall in those times

I've just re-read some of the books. I remember when the series was on in the 70s, I hope they haven't spoilt it in the remake.

I'm looking forward to the re-make of Poldark.

I was not a massive fan of the previous series, probably because I was young and missed several episodes due to going out and enjoying myself :)

Only hope Cornwall won't be too crowded when I visit in May.

Just to make you jealous, I remember spending part of a pleasant evening chatting to her.

We were providing the dance music for a birthday party and she turned up with her then partner/boyfriend, Alan Bates. The birthday girl looked after Alan's house whilst he was away and, whilst he was otherwise engaged during the interval, she came over to chat to us.

The disappointing thing; I had no idea who she was - until I climbed into bed that night and told my wife that I'dbeen chatting to some actress called Angharad Rees.

I loved it so much back then that when my oldest son was born I called him Ross (38 years ago).

I took the baby in to work to show him off to my work pals and one of the lads said " if the next one's a girl are you going to call her Esmerelda (he meant Demelza LOL) "

Three years later and my next one was also a boy  ;D ;D ;D

I've circled it in the Radio Times, but I'm not sure if we're going to watch it or not.
Can't improve on the first one ! And we do watch Mr Selfridge  ;D

I did read most of the books too,but was surprised to hear on The One Show that Winston Graham carried on writing them (from 1945) until 2002.

As a fan of Poldark I planned to call my third child Angharad (we were living in Wales at the time).............somehow I don't think my son would have approved.  :D

Just watched it and enjoyed it. I thought it stayed fairly true to the book.

I agree that this is off to a good start - I remember the original series and this one is not as brooding.

My brother and sister in law called their daughter, my niece, (now similar age to your son) Demelza!!

We watched Poldark and recorded Mr Selfridge. What with Call the Midwife earlier, Sunday evenings are getting rather busy!

Sadly that was the last Midwife of the current series,I cried at the end when Dr Turner said he'd given the pregnant mum this fantastic new drug...........thalidomide.

I screamed at the TV........Noooooo !!!

Watched call the midwife and i also yelled no at the thalidomide but it is used as treatment with one of the haematology disorders.  As for poldark apparently mom found him moody so did i. Not sure which i prefer, he's a bit of rough!

A new anti sickness drug was hailed as a wonder drug back in the 60's.
If only we'd known then what we know now.

Interesting to spot Trevose lighthouse clearly in shot during one scene, it wasn't built till about 60 years later.

A very enjoyable first episode. I think Eleanor Tomlinson is really good as Demelza and Aidan Turner...well what can I say he really is a hunk ;D

As well as the burglar alarm bloomer there is also an aerial cable coming down from the chimney.

But that was only on the promotion shoots, they had edited them out by the time it went to air.
