Hello and welcome to Roots Chat

To save duplicate look ups could you post what information you have -or require??

Do you have the maiden names of Mary Ann Jane and Elizabeth ???

I am assuming all of them were not named Hannah and married hannahs??

James Hannah born 1791 married
Elizabeth Hannah born 1790

Where did you find James Hannah's d.o.b.??

1841 census

Lincs
James hannah 50 ag lab n
Elizabeth 50 n
James 15 Shoemaker app yes
Thomas 10 Cooper's app y
George 10 y
HO107 635 141 6

1841 does not show relationships  and ages of adults 15 years+ are rounded down to nearest 5 years

1851
New Biggen
James Hannah Head M 65 labourer on Highways Binbrook Lincs
Elizabeth wife 59 Gt Grimsby
George son 20 Tailor?  Gt Grimsby
HO107 2113 132 32

so would James' y.o.b. be nearer 1785/6???

If so then could this be his baptism?

New Biggen seems to be the name of a street/area in Grimsby.

The is no suitable marriage in my index with the spelling HANNAH, so you must be satisfied with HANNATH. ;) Here is a possible marriage.

I have spent over a year researching the Hannah Family.Of course I may not have all the correct dates but I feel I am on the right tracks.I have used Familysearch.org for a lot of information,(although limited)My Grand Fathers name was Percy Hannah who died in 1926 a long time before I was born.Percys father was George Hannah and he married Mary Ann Hannah (do not know maiden name) They were both born in 1848 and 1850.George Hannahs father was Thomas Hannah who married Jane Hannah (do not know maiden name) in 1847 These are all my ancestors They were born 1827 and 1821.I can go back to my Great Great Great Grand Parents James Hannah born 1791 who married Elizabeth Hannah nee Hodgson. All these people lived in Grimsby and Lincoln.

It looks like you are on the right track- you have James Hannah as b 1791 -where did you find this information?? If it is from the 1841 census then on that census ages of adults 15+ years of age are rounded down to the nearest 5years  In 1851 James age is 65 -which would give him a birth year of c.1785/6  and he gives p.o.b. as Binbrook-if this is the case then his possible baptism is the one I posted - so that takes you back another generation to James and Mary.

The marriage Geoff- E posted looks good -especially as james signed his name "Hannah"

Do you have the Hannah's on all of the census ? Or do you require them?

Do you keep a record of where you have sourced your information?

Title: Marshall family in Nottingham UK
Post by: john-david on Wednesday 04 March 15 12:31 GMT (UK)
I would also appreciate some help in finding the full names of my Grand Father and Grand Mother from Nottingham on my Fathers side.I know nothing about them. All I know is that obviously my Grand Fathers name was Marshall and my Grand Mothers maiden name was Williamson. They had four children John Henry Marshall born 1914.Elizabeth.L Marshall born 1917.George Marshall ( my father ) born 1924 and Clara Marshall born 1921 all from Nottingham. As I live in Germany it is difficult for me to get any more information. If I knew the full names of my Grand Parents it would be easier to do more research.   Thanks John David Marshall    North Germany

Hi Suz I thank you for you reply.I do keep records of all the info I have.I mostly get it from census records Infact it was quite easy finding the Hannah family.I am not sure whether I have all the correct facts but it seems that the census must be right.I have records of where they lived and what they did for a living.I find it very interesting really as it appears no one in my family ever talked about their
ancestors and to go back to 1791,Lord Nelson and Napoleon were still alive then.

to go back to 1791,Lord Nelson and Napoleon were still alive then.

But do you think you have got back to 1785 not 1791 - do you think that is the correct baptism for James Hannah???
and so then you could get back another generation to James and Mary?

So you need the marriages of you Hannah's finding too -to get the maiden names of their spouses
Also it may be worth looking to see if James and Elizabeth had more children than James Thomas & George

I'll look for info on the Marshalls too

If you agree that James Hannah was b c 1785 (not 1791) Binbrook (could you confirm please?)

then his baptism in Binbrook gives his parents as James and Mary

There is a marriage for James Hannah and Mary Burman
15 Feb 1773
Binbrook Lincs
(they had at least 4 children- Thomas 1775 Jane 1779 Mary 1781 and James 1785)

Thanks for your reply.I am hopeful that all the info I have on the Hannah family is enough really,(although I would like to go back further.) As I am a bit of an historian it helps me learn and understand about people who lived in those times. They did not have cars or computers then.It is interesting that Thomas Hannah was a Blacksmith. On my mothers side I have lots of information. However I need to do more research on my fathers side and I find that this site RootsChat is very helpful.  John-David

To save the topics getting muddled it would be a good idea to start a new topic requesting Marshall information -post on the Nottingham boards

There are a lot of us willing to help you.

Could you give your opinion on the information found for you on the Hannahs??

You still haven't replied to my query regarding where you sourced the y.o.b. of 1791?
I beleive it to be c. 1785 and wit the baptism found and marriage of parents that takes you back another generation

If you only have the record of one child Thomas then you need to find baptisms /marriages and census

The marriage of James Hannah posted by barleymow seems to be the correct (2nd) marriage for James -who was your Thomas' brother
