I am a bit stuck with my g grandfather's side of the family as he had quite a common name, John Kelly. I got his marriage cert dated 21st of June 1895 wherein he married Mary Ball. His address is listed as 13 Smith's Cottages, Nerney's Court. I was hoping I might find this address on the 1901 census but it doesn't seem to be there. Thought some of his family might still be there and I could put together the pieces. Any help on the address, or if it was changed maybe, would be appreciated.
Many thanks.

If I've got the correct place.
Nierney's Court is listed
http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1901/Dublin/Rotunda/Nierney_s_Court/
But in one lot.
Looking at the old maps it's the same way. Nerney Court.
Nerney Court appears to be made up of several sets of houses but figuring out which set is Smith's Cottages could be a problem. The name may have only been used by residents.

Hi Shansf
Nerney's Court runs from Gardiner Place ( just of Mountjoy Square) around
Temple Street Hospital and then it continues across Temple Street. From Gardiner Place
it is accessed through a covered lane between the original house's. I have never seen cottage's
on this part and the far side are Corporation Flats.

Comparing the families in the two Census, it's looking like Smith's Cottages may be around numbers 18ish to 24ish of 1901 Nierney's Court.
For example 1901 http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1901/Dublin/Rotunda/Nierney_s_Court/1331454/
1911 http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1911/Dublin/Rotunda/Smyth_s_Cottages__Off_Nerney_s_Court__/52978/
And next door 1901 http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1901/Dublin/Rotunda/Nierney_s_Court/1331453/
1911 http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1911/Dublin/Rotunda/Smyth_s_Cottages__Off_Nerney_s_Court__/52970/
Need more work with a pen and paper.

Unfortunately the Doyle's at number 14 in 1899 appear to have moved out by 1901.

Fun and all as this is I doubt it's much use to Sharon.
Smiths Cottages seems to be one of those places people moved in and out of fairly often.
What are John and Mary's father's names?
Where did they marry?
Maybe we can find something.
-
Thanks you all for the replies. It looks like there is one of the houses in Nierneys Court that may correspond with Smith's Cottages that still have a Kelly in it but it is difficult to know if it is number 13. Also, with it being what appears to be somewhat of a transitory area and Kelly being a common name it is difficult to tell.
In answer to Sinann - John's father name was also John (you see my problem!). They both have the occupation of labourer. He is listed as age 20 when he got married. That is all I have for him.
Mary's father is James (deceased) - her address is 6 Dorset Place - I already have her family.
Their marriage cert is from St Josephs in Berkeley Road.
Mary and John themselves are living at Dorset place in the 1901 census - http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1901/Dublin/Inns_Quay/Dorset_Place/1324043/
Thank you all.

Thanks Dathai - I'm not sure I would get any more information from the church marriage cert than I already got from the civil cert. Would it give the mother's name perhaps?
-
most churches record both parents names

I was hoping Mary might have been a witness on a Kelly marriage but I can't find one.
-
Dathai - It might be worth trying to get it so.
Sinann - I was hoping that also, or a baptism, but no joy.
-
One other thing that may be uselful - John Kelly and his wife Mary named their first son Nicholas. There does not appear to be a Nicholas on Mary's side so it may be connected to the Kelly side. Long shot I know!
-
First son was often named after the husband's grandfather. Worth a look.
So a John Kelly with a father Nicholas getting married in the 1860s or 70s!

Pro Cathedral link is good
http://churchrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/details/c9ac5b0054598
is Joannes John
-
Sinaan - John's father is also called John, so are you thinking this might be his parents? Therefore Nicholas his grandfather?
Oops, just saw your previous comment. So, yes, thats a thought.
-
It's no use without John (married to Mary Ball) mother's name but stick it in you notes, might prove useful some day.
-
Thanks all. Yes, I think getting the church marriage cert is the way to go. I can't go any further otherwise. I'll put the info in my notes for now.

Thanks Dathai. I'll make a note of this in case I find anymore info. Interesting that Smith's Cottages start at number 18, but are listed as Nerney's Court. The ones before the one you linked all show Nerney's Court.
