Seeking descendants or ancestors of James Cleland Forrest (my GG Grandfather), a glassmaker/artisan (originally from Lanarkshire, Scotland). 1881 Census indicates he and wife Sophia FERGUSON and their children lived at Tranmere Road in Birkenhead England. They were married in Scotland around 1871. His youngest son George Fergus Forrest emigrated to Canada after service in the Boer War.

Your post is pretty ancient but I'll try anyway. My Y-DNA indicates a match with a Gavin Forrest of Cambusnethan, whom I believe was James's grandfather. The connection must go back at least 2 generations before Gavin (b. 1775). The earliest ancestors I know of are Robert Forrest/Janet Miller (banns 1740 in Carluke & Hamilton).
By the way - Robert Forrest the sculptor was Robert and Janet's grandson.
Any connection that you know of that goes back that far?
