Hi all,
I would be very grateful if anyone has the baptism records for Teigh Rutland if you could have a look for George Williamson b abt 1816 please. I have the records up to 1813 but not after then.
The census have him as born in Market Overton but I have those records and he isn't there. Other people that I suspect to be his family members were from Teigh. I'm trying to find who his parents were I think his mother was Elizabeth Williamson but I'm not 100% sure.
Thank you for any help offered

Hi Trish,
Thank you for your help. I have his Marriage cert unfortunately there is no father listed...which I suppose could support the (on ancestry) theory that he was illegitimate.
Ancestry tree's have his mother as Elizabeth Williamson, looks like she moved from Market Overton to Wymondham somewhere between 1820-1841, George moved from Market Overton (if it's correct birthplace on the census's which of course may not be) to Wymondham somewhere between birth abt 1816-1846 which may support the theory that Elizabeth was his mother but I have found no actual documented evidence.
My George married at the age of 30 and it says he was a bachelor on the M/C so I guess the one on that census probably isn't him.

George's marriage certificate is on some ancestry trees. There is a John Williamson witnessing the marriage, both were literate.
Interestingly, there is a burial in Market Overton the year before Elizabeth Williamson marries - Baker Williamson, 27 years, 16 Mar 1819. I cannot find a baptism for him in Rutland nor a marriage, but it makes you wonder whether perhaps Elizabeth was a widow when she married? You'd need to find out where Baker Williamson was from. It may be that if he was George's father, George may have been baptised wherever his father was from rather than his mother. :-\
I can't see a John Williamson on the census in Wymondham, suggesting that he too wasn't from there. Perhaps he was George's brother?
Unfortunately none of the Colston children were born later enough for a birth certificate to confirm their mother's maiden name. Elizabeth Colston may have been the 1789 Elizabeth Williamson to John and Elizabeth, or someone may just be assuming that. She would have been 31 when she married which is a little older than you would expect but she would still have been young enough to have been the mother of all those Colston children. I accept that there is no sign of another burial or marriage of that Elizabeth Williamson in Market Overton, but she could have married elsewhere. Admittedly it looks like her parents both were buried in the parish though.

Should have mentioned the only George Williamson baptism in Rutland post 1813 is to Christopher and Elizabeth in Egleton in 1813, he's a merchants clerk.
I think we can probably discount Baker Williamson being Elizabeth Colston's first husband. There's a marriage in 1817 in Carlby, Lincolnshire in 1817 of a Baker Williamson to Ann Boulby. Admittedly, the post 1813 baptisms are missing from lincstothepast to confirm whether they remained in there but I can't see him on the census anywhere. Carlby isn't far from the Rutland border so its quite probable the Baker Williamson buried in Market Overton is the same man who married in Carlby, but only access to the Carlby post 1813 baptisms would probably confirm or refute it. :-\

The Marriage Witness may be his possible Uncle John born c 1783 Market Overton or Cousin John 1808 (that is if Elizabeth 1789 is Georges Mother)
1851 he is in Teigh, Rutland, but seems to flit between Rutland/Leics;
HO107/2092/84/15
John WILLIAMSON, Head, Mar, Wesleyan Local Preacher, born MT Overton, Rutland
Mary, 68, Wife, Mar, Labourers Wife, born Teigh
John, 43, Son, Unm, Chelsea Pensioner, born Seweston, Leicestershire
1861 John Snr and Mary are in Stapleford, Leics. He is down as born c 1784 Market Overton, Rutland. Mary c 1783 Teigh.
Maybe clutching at straws here!

You have been busy thank you both I really appreciate your help.
I do think it's the correct Elizabeth Williamson that married John Colston I'm just not sure if my George was her illegitimate son from before she married John...although a lot of the circumstantial evidence does seem to fit that he was.
The Elizabeth Williamson who I suspect is his mother had a brother named John Williamson so he could have been the witness on the marriage cert but again this is just a guess.
Wymondham and Market Overton are pretty close together I believe, so I think it is quite likely
Elizabeth was George's mother I just wish I could find a paper trail....
