Joseph Edmundson Nelson who gave his wartime address as 15 Parkfield Rd. Bolton was the Flight Engineer of 97 Squadron Lancaster JA708.
His aircraft was shot down on 23/24 September 1943 1 minute after bombing Mannheim. His aircraft, a Messerschmitt 110 night fighter piloted by Unteroffizie Josef Brunner operating out of Venlo in Holland.
My father Walter Layne was the Wireless Operator on this aircraft and he and Joe Nelson along with two others managed to bail out eventually becoming prisoners of war.
There are 50 prisoners named in my father's POW "Wartime Log." https://wallyswar.wordpress.com/pow-log/
I am attempting to find a wartime photograph of each individual, so far I have found 23. My efforts so far can be seen here. https://wallyswar.wordpress.com/other-pows/
I am hopeful that through this website I can find a wartime photograph of Joe Nelson and hopefully a little more information.
Regards, David Layne.

Thank you Sarah. That photograph came to that site via me, my father is in that crew. I am hoping to come across a individual photograph of Joe Nelson to replace the one I have of him that is cropped from that crew picture.
