Hi
I have a marriage in Naas in 1877 of
Frederick William O'Connor
and
Jane Maher
I have the source on Ancestry but would like to purchase the record.
I have tried to find it on RootsIreland without success. I have also tried to find it on GRO but to be honest I don't know how.
Frederick William O'Connor was in the army at the time.
1877 Naas Volume 17 page 748
Can someone help me please.
Cheers Ian

GRO certificates aren't available online so you have to order the certificate using the index references.

Just in case you don't have these children-
Ellen Maud 1878 Curragh Camp https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:FR41-V6D
Emily born 1880 Cork https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:FGKZ-QFC

Thanks Aghadowey
I had actually read most of that link and I was hoping there was an easier way.
Yes thanks I have the children.
Cheers

If you haven't read that thread to the end ( it's very long now) you may not realise you can get the cert sent to you via email although you can't order it that way. Don't forget to order a research/photocopy cert.

Thanks Sinann
I noticed on Familysearch that the record was in Belfast and I thought it could perhaps be ordered from there.

I'm a bit puzzled by the Belfast reference- could you explain further?
This is the Naas marriage but I can't see a link to Belfast-

Hi,
You can these on line now. The Health Service in Ireland site.
hse.ie
they are 20 euro.
They are only about 10 to 15 if you go to the offices.
Any record after 1864 they have.
I have been to most offices in Ireland over the years and had no trouble in getting any of my records.

It's much cheaper to order the 4 Euro research certificate.
-
I noticed at the bottom of the page that the record was from Belfast.
-
I still can't see Belfast anywhere. All I can see at the bottom on the page is-
Citing this Record
"Ireland, Civil Registration Indexes, 1845-1958," index, FamilySearch (https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/FY7Q-BJ7 : accessed 21 February 2015), MARRIAGES entry for Frederick William O'Connor; citing Naas, 1877, vol. 17, p. 748, General Registry, Custom House, Dublin; FHL microfilm 101,253.
Or are you looking at a different page?

Hi
was Jane born overseas? India
I have done this info. for someone else, in the USA.
I will have a look and see, if this is the one they went to the Isle of white.
Was F W born in Cork or Dublin?
There were two F W O'Connor's in the army.
One child was born in Cork, I think a girl, at that time he was stationed in what is known now as Crosshaven.
I will see what I have.

Yes, Jane was born in India. I have all the children and have Frederick's army record and they ended up on the Isle of Wight.
Thanks for your help.

I will check up the Belfast one when I get back home.
Cheers.

Belfast certificates can be viewed online but if the marriage took place in Naas then Belfast really shouldn't be there :-\

Sorry, it was actually on Ancestry:
Original data:
“Ireland, Civil Registration Indexes 1845–1958,” Index. FamilySearch, Salt Lake City, Utah. General Register Office. "Quarterly Returns of Births in Ireland with Index to Births." Belfast, Ireland.

As far as I know he was born in 1856 in Nenagh, Co.Tipperary.

Still doesn't make sense as that's a birth, not marriage, reference. Or is that dor something else like the birth of one of their children?

Well I think it is a little strange but the record on Ancestry is for Marriages:
"Frederick William O'Connor in the Ireland, Civil Registration Marriages Index, 1845-1958"

Grace Oconnor born 7 May 1887 Military Hospital Arbour Hill to Frederick Oconnor & Joanna Maher
John Edward OConnor born 1 Apr 1889 Military Hospital Arbour Hill to Frederick Oconnor & Joanna Maher
Suggests marriage was 1886 or earlier (registered later), he may have been stationed in Curragh and they used Arbour Hill for births?
Arbour Hill is Dublin North, near city centre.

Thanks for looking merseult.
Just wondering if these people are mine. I have a Frederick William O'Connor and a Jane Maher.
I am still working on my tree but I have no Grace born to them but I do have a John Edward. A number of the children were born in Curragh according to Frederick William's army record.
Can I ask you where you got your info from please.

Seems highly likely, Jane is a derivative of Johanna and unusual to see "Jane" direct in RC records, and probability of two military Frederick Oconnor and Joanna Maher marriages in Ireland around same time next to zero. These records are from Rootsireland.

Above is interesting though .. Is this your guy ? Ages highly unreliable in Irish census. Did he remarry ? In 1911 wife Margaret no children but he has 7 living so perhaps widowed or divorced.

Cheers.
I will take a look there.
