Hi folks, first I would like to say a big thank you to "Annie and Co" for all the work put in to find "William Tuckwood 1806" We found a lot more interesting stuff too.
Can you help with this one, please
George Tuckwood born 1817 bap 17th November 1822 Notts St Marys.Married Rebecca Morton 1839.
She died 1885,George died 1893 but on the death cert it was reported by "Elizabeth Blades - Stepdaughter." I've found a marriage of George Blades to Elizabeth Jane Mather. I've looked for a marriage for George Tuckwood to a "Mather" after 1885 but not found any.
Could someone have a look and see if they can find another marriage for George Tuckwood please after 1885 and before 1891.On the 1891 census he is living with his son George.
Thanks very much
Maggie

Hi the Elizabeth J Mather married to the George Blades looks to be the Elizabeth b c 1864 Nottingham on census ref 1891 RG12/2693/20/16
And with mother Mary Mather and siblings as Elizabeth J aged 7 on 1871 RG10/3527/50/31

Thanks for that, is there a marriage for Mary Mather to George Tuckwood anywhere? As she is a step-daughter he must have married her mother.Any help would be appreciated.

Just a thought - As you said George was living with his son George and family in 1891 listed as a widower. If he died whilst living with them I would have thought his son or daughter in law would register his death
I can't see a marriage for George Jnr and wife Eliza - Could her maiden name have been Blades and if the couple never married Eliza registered George Snr's death using her maiden name and the description step daughter was a mistake for daughter in law?? :-\

Hi Kay,
George Jnr and Eliza is another story lol!!!! 1891 census is when he is with his son George. Elizabeth Blades is living at 2,North St Sneinton Notts. Is there any way I can find out who else was living at that address at that time.
Thanks

I wonder - Eliza Blades - listed as married in 1891 and living as a lodger at 32 West St Sneinton
Alexander Brown 67 Head -Greengrocer
Elizabeth Brown 75
Eliza Hersepool 62 Lodger Lace Dresser
Eliza Blades 44 Lodger Married - Lace clipper b Nottingham - shire?
-
So possibly this marriage?
1878 03 10 SNEINTON St Luke
groom John BLADES
bride Elizabeth Ann UPTON
-
Also possible earlier marriage of a William Upton to Elisabeth Ann Peet June Qtr 1871 Radford 7b 313, so this may well be another red herring ::)
-
okey doke, let's step back a moment.
To put it bluntly, we don't know which Elizabeth Blades this was, and there's more than one possible candidate.
OP, where did you find the Mather-Blades marriage details? (edited - answered my own q - on FreeBMD)
however there was also the Blades-Upton marriage mentioned above, and a total of 5 Eliza/Elizabeth Blades in the county in the 1891 census. It could have been any of these -- or none!
The Eliza Blades in Snenton in 1891 (geographically the most likely candidate but only because she was in Snenton) was 44, b Nottingham, a lace clipper, married (but not with husband) and living as a lodger with Eliza Horsepool in Snenton. I'm going to go and look for her with a husband to see what her m/name might have been.
-
In 1881, Elizabeth Blades and her husband JOHN were at 68, Manvers St, Snenton.
John BLADES age 56, labourer, b Burn, Lincolnshire
Elizabeth BLADES age 33, b Nottingham
so likely to be the same Elizabeth Blades as in my post above, b 1857-8 in Nottingham; given surname UPTON when she married John.
-
There is a death of an Elizabeth Ann Blades age 49 in Jun Qtr 1897 Nottingham 7b 206 that fits with her
Edit - On the image I think John Blades could be 36 in 1881
-
Burial:
1897 04 10 Elizabeth Ann BLADES
age 49
address Carlton Rd Nottm
burial place St Catherine
-
George died at 34,Carlton Rd,Sneinton Notts
-
Looks like that's your Elizabeth then.
Unfortunately I can't see a likely candidate for her pre-marriage
-
(Thinking out loud again) We have Elizabeth on the 1881 and 1891 censuses and in both cases she states her pob as Nottingham (not just the county but the actual town).
Her yob is consistent across the censuses and her burial record as 1857-8.
Neither FreeBMD nor my Notts CDs have an Elizabeth Ann Upton born/baptised in Notts in between 1856-1859, although there is one Elizabeth Upton birth regd in Basford in 1856. There's no matching baptism on my discs to see who her parents were. However I can't see an Elizabeth Upton of suitable age born in Nottingham itself (as opposed to elsewhere in the county) on the censuses.
So to my mind the options are:
1. Elizabeth Ann adopted her middle name later
2. Maybe she wasn't born in Notts
3. Maybe she wasn't brought up as an Upton
(linked to 3) maybe she was was a widow when she married John
5. Maybe she's there and I just can't see her!
-
The marriage cert of Elizabeth Upton and John Blades may solve the problem (24 Carlton St is unoccupied in 1891)
Edit - I still wonder if Elizabeth Upton was the widow of this marriage I posted earlier - William Upton to Elisabeth Ann Peet June Qtr 1871 Radford 7b 313
In 1871 there is an Elizabeth Peet age 23 lace maker b Nottingham living as a lodger in Nottingham with a Mary Peet age 80 b Horncastle Lincs as Head RG10 Piece 3511 Folio 12 Page 18
and a possible Elizabeth Peat in 1861 living in Sneinton with parents John and Mary Peat and family :-\
-
The 1871 census was taken on 2 April 1871.
William Upton and Eliz. Peet's marriage details:
29 May 1871 William UPTON and Elizabeth Ann PEET at SNEINTON St Stephen
so that's certainly a possibility. But William would obviously have to die in the following few years and I can't see any suitable burials on the CD (however it doesn't inlude burials in the municipal cemeteries).
Sight of the marriage cert for John Blades and Eliz Upton would be ideal. When does the archive office reopen?
