Hi - can anyone help me in researching the Maher family in the townland of Clintstown, Kilkenny?
I know that Patrick Maher (b1820) my GGGrandfather was born in Clintstown and married Sarah Connery in the then new Conahy Parish Church in 1840, before emigrating to Australia the same year. I want to know about the rest of his family (upstream in Ireland), and also that of the Connery family, also (I think) from Clintstown).
thanks
Steve

Hello Steve

thanks Conahy Calling - I actually have previously found and copied all this stuff.
What I am after is some linkage of "my" Patrick Maher with the Patrick Maher who appears in the Griffiths Valuation record for Clintstown, recorded in May 1849 (ie after "my" Patrick had left for Australia). Is this his father? And is the Philip Maher recorded in the 1826 Tithe Applotments his grandfather? Same with a William Connery in Clintstown in 1849, and a Thomas Connery in 1826 - were they the immediate family of "my" Sarah Connery?
Is there anyone researching the Maher family in Clintstown, Conahy, Kilmacar etc? How can I start constructing a family tree?
cheers
Steve

From Irish Resources board link "my family came from Ireland, where do I start?"
Conahy Parish records start 1832.

Kilmacar and Conahy graveyards are both recorded on www.historicgraves.ie

thanks again Conahy Calling!
I didn't know about those websites, although I have visited both cemeteries. I do know Deidre Leahy (who took the grave photos) who is related to the Maher family, but not sure if it's "my" Mahers.
I'm still searching for the "missing link" between my Mahers and the Mahers in the various records and headstones etc.
cheers

this is the earliest Connory baptism I could find in Clintstown - might indicate that William in Griffiths is more likely to be a brother of Patrick but as Conaghy pointed out the parish records don't start early enough to make a definitive connection.
Sarah Connory Date of Birth:
Date of Baptism: 12-Nov-1842
Address: Clinstown Parish/District: CONAHY
Gender: Female County Co. Kilkenny
Denomination: Roman Catholic
Father: William Connory Mother: Judith Walsh
Occupation:

Informant 1: Michael Walsh Sponsor 2 /
Informant 2: Mary Connory

Hi Steve Burns, just wonedring if in your research you came across a David Maher who married Anastasia (Anty) Barlow or Barton in KIlkenny in 1846?
This David Maher was thought to be a member of the 48th Foot Regiment..
I'm actually trying to find a John Maher convictd at Limerick in 1851 (receiving stolen goods) and transported to Fremantle, Western Australia, in 1853. This John Maher who died 1902, Albany, Western Australia, has David Maher and Anna Kelly cited as his parents on his death cert.
A long shot, but possibly related your Mahers of Clintstown, Kilkenny

Hi I'm a Maher from Clinstown Co. Kilkenny it's more commonly spelt without the 2nd T. We are the only family of Mahers in Clinstown at present. However, Clontubrid cemetery would be close by where most of our ancestors were buried they're tombstones date back to famine times mid 1800s and possibly before. If you've found no luck there maybe clontubrid or Freshford might be worth a luck. Best of luck 🍀
