Title: School on Kippen Street and Glenhead Street
Post by: Janice M on Monday 16 February 15 20:51 GMT (UK)
Does anyone remember the name of the school that was on both Kippen and Glenhead in the 1930's?

It is now called Greenview, and remember seeing somewhere that it was originally called Balmore, but I believe it was called something else in the 1930's and 1940's.

Both my mother and my cousin went there. Unfortunately, my mother has passed away, and my cousin was so young, she doesn't remember the name.

Thanks.

Janice

As a man, I struggle to read a woman's mind Janice, could you give me a clue what town or city you are talking about.

James.

How about a few more clues? Catholic or otherwise, primary or secondary? Surley Balmore was well into Possil? What makes you think it's now called Greenview?

Thank you everyone. I will let my cousin know.  Sorry Imber it was a primary public school, and I knew about the name change when I tried looking up the address and it came back with the new name.

I appreciate all your help.

I lived in that area when I was young , I always knew it as Parkhouse school for the deaf , I did read recently that it was another kind of school way back , I lived in that area from 1969 on wards , didn't know it changed its name again , it's been closed a good few years now

It was indeed Parkhouse school Janice, and I attended there in the late 40s,early 50s as at that time my family lived at the junction of Ashfield/Glenhead streets.
When we later moved to Haywood street I was amongst the first intake of pupils at the newly opened Chirnsyde school.
Happy days. :)

Thank you so much for answering.

My mother attended earlier than that, but my cousin attended there in the late 40's up until she left for Canada in 1952.

Hi
Does anyone know what date the school's name changed from Balmore to Parkhouse and then again what date it changed to Greenview?
