Another for dating, pretty please. Blank back, square corners, 6 x 8 inches.
Also happy to receive colours etc.
No hurry for these, just posting while I have the scanner cranked up.
Cheers

What a glorious picture! Any idea as to the occasion?
-
I think they may be grandmother and mother of the bride, possibly the mothers of the bride and groom. I have the wedding photo attached below.
Don't you just love the outfits! :D :D

Bumping my own up to the top! ;D ;D ;D ;D

1920s I would say...Lovely photos Caz.

Hi Nettie
I think they are beautiful too! The dresses and bouquets are quite something and I can picture them in glorious colour.

I hope you don't mind, I've changed the background.
These look like two very fashionable ladies. My mother wore a dress similar to the lady on the left for her wedding in 1929. She lived in a small village so I don't imagine she would be up to date with fashion, so I would date this photo a few years earlier.
Is the lady on the right wearing trousers under the skirt?
Pat
Sorry I can't understand why it is so small, I tried, but didn't succeed to enlarge it!
-
Hi Pat
I don't mind at all, it's gorgeous! :D :D Are you able to post a larger version though?
Caz

Caz! Where are you getting all these fabulous old pics? I'm so jealous :)
My first thought was 1920s but my second was later. There's a cloche hat in the background but the bride isn't wearing any of the trendy 1920s stuff like mobcap, dropped waist or knee-length hemline.
So I went through my bunch of known wedding photos and the closest I could find was 1936. Hemlines were back to full length and satin seems to have been the fabric of choice with minimal lace. Waistlines were back to the waist and although a crown attachment to the headdress was fashionable there were a lot of "classic" veils as well.
The gent cuts quite a figure, doesn't he? I'm thinking this is a society wedding. And I'm also thinking it's the bride's (or groom's) mother and grandmother as there seems to be a bit of an age difference. On the other hand the older lady in the pic doesn't look all that thrilled to be standing next to the younger one :P :P :P They do have very similar faces, though :)
No clue as to where it was taken, I suppose...?

Another try. I don't know what happened but all seemed to go wrong when I was working in layers. I have done this before with no problems. I think it is to do with the pixels per inch. I am a complete amateur so don't know too much when things go wrong.
edit - I thought it would be bigger than this, sorry.

How big was the background image Pat? That could have been your problem. It's okay though as I can make it larger myself and I don't need very large files, so it's all good! :) :) :)

Hiya China
You haven't seen anything yet! I'm going to keep you busy for awhile. I've expanded my hobby and becoming a collector as well as a restorer, so stay tuned! :P
Have a look at the chap's footwear. It looks to me like he's wearing spats could that throw a spanner in the works and bring it back to 1920s?
Also, look at the younger of the "mothers", is that trousers she's wearing?
Caz
-
Yeah, I saw the spats. I had heard that spats went out of fashion very suddenly, within a few minutes of the King showing up at some horse race without spats...the bushes were strewn with everyone else's discarded ones ;D
But in formal morning attire they persisted for a while and I have seen a few photos on the net of men wearing them at weddings in the 30s. Douglas Fairbanks Jr was one of them.
The lady's trousers, yes, very daring and I haven't been able to find anything. But ladies' pants were much more common in the 30s, not much at all in the 20s.
Here's my scenario...it's Maman and Grandmaman in the photo...Maman knows she's torquing the old bat off with her scandalous transparent skirt revealing outrageous trousers underneath and is relishing every delicious moment of it. Grandmaman, on the other hand, has evidently been sucking green persimmons and if it weren't for Granddaughter's fortuitous catch of a very rich and childless widower she'd write the entire branch of the family out of her will the instant she got home... :P ;D ;D ;D
That wedding dress is still 1930s by me :D
Cheers,

A colour from me, regards, John.

Thanks China! Information duly noted and logged! 1930s it is. :) :) :)
You should take up script writing for Downton Abbey! ;D ;D ;D
Caz

Thank you so much John it's lovely! Very generous of you to give up your time for me! Very much appreciated!

What a pity these people (or their descendents) wont see the lovely improvements that have been done on their wedding photos.

How often I've thought the same thing, Bev...
Now, this is weird...I just copied and pasted both photos into a Word doc for my own reference, and the first one pasted correctly. But the bride & groom photo appeared reversed!! No idea why. Upside down, I could understand, Down Undah and all that...... ;D ;D ;D

Hi Bev/China
I wish there was information on them, but sadly no. Still at least by posting them, they are being enjoyed by Rootschatters!
Caz
PS China, can you look at "Not a Priority No 1" when you get the opportunity!
