I am researching Maria Isdell born Navan County Meath c 1864
She was married in Fyzabad India to John Kendall. Father was James, a joiner and probably in the British army. Any help or pointers to finding anything about this family gratefully received.

Earlier thread states Maria was born in Dublin. What is the source that she was born in Navan?

Thanks for that.
On the 1911 English census Maria's place of birth is given as Navan, Meath.
It is her marriage that you found - her nationality on the certificate is Irish, so I don't think her mother just happened to be in Ireland when she was born.

Thanks very much for your help and interest which is appreciated. I would like to think it could be the James and Jessie family but in the probate record it says he was a farmer and from the marriage certificate he was a carpenter.

She was married in Fyzabad India to John Kendall. Father was James, a joiner
In the copy register image on FindMyPast, the husband is Mark Kendall (Sergeant, 2nd Liverpool Reg't) and there is no occupation shown for either father. Do you have a different, more detailed certificate?
-
Yes. I have a copy of the army record of the marriage. For some reason they call him John, not Mark, but it is definitely the same person. The names and professions of the groom's and the bride's fathers are given and Maria's father is James Isdell, carpenter.

Thanks, that's interesting to know.

Thanks for that. I'll see if I can find any more on the National Archives site.
