Title: Death in Govan 1849
Post by: donkeykong on Sunday 08 February 15 15:00 GMT (UK)
I am trying to find info on George Rankine who died in Govan on 29 Dec. 1849. Would there be an obituary in a Newspaper as it was advertised in the Falkirk Heraldbut trying to find his grave as it may be in Govan

Hi  :)

Glasgow Herald might have something http://news.google.com/newspapers?nid=GGgVawPscysC

Are you expecting to find an obituary? Most people didn't really. At best for many, you may find a death notice simply.

Added: Online issues for December 1849 look very patchy unfortunately  :-\ Maybe try going in to first few days of January 1850 too.

With Harrywrag's detail on George Rankine's occuapation etc...

Just wondering if you have seen the entries on http://www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk for his last will & testaments - there are two entries, TRUST DISPOSITION - 5 pages and CORRECTED INVENTORY - 3 pages.

Sad really  :-\ Given his tenure at Carron Company Works , you would hope to find some reference to his grave and burial. Seems you have run through the range of options so far...maybe some other suggestions to come still.
