Alfred Burton was born in 1868 at Towrang N.S.W and do not know what happened to him. His parents were William Burton 1834 England died 1919 Boxhill Victoria and Eliza Rogers born England 1835 died 19191 Boxhill Victoria. They did not get married till Dec 1871 N.S.W after all their children were born. Children were William 1856 -1924 Sarah Ann 1861-1953 John 1864-1934 and Eliza 1866-1948 all born different places in N.S.W. Thanks Take Care Lynette

Hi Lyn22, Can I ask how you have placed these children with the parents, was it from a Death Certificate? It is unusual for the parents to marry after the childrens births in those years, also except for a Possible John 1865and Eliza 1866 I cannot find those children to the parents in NSW Indexes for BDM.

They are both buried at Box Hill Cemetery, Eliza in Aug 1919 and Wm in Dec 1919 and I've just found a death in NSW for a Wm BURTON in 1919 at Albury, NSW
The names of the children of the marriage both living and deceased should be on their certificates.
What is the source of your information about the family?

I had a look on the BMD and there is an Eliza Rogers Mother Eliza born 1866 / 8770 and also Eliza Burton born 1866 / 8770 Father William Mother Eliza. So I will buy the Alfred Rogers birth certificate and see what it says. Thanks Lynette

Clifton Hill could mean Yarra Bend Asylum, I have a death in Clifton Hill that really was Yarra Bend when I bought the certificate.

You could be right. It was normal practice for an inquests into deaths in public institutions and Eliza's name is not on the Inquest Index.
I did wonder if one of their children lived in Clifton Hill and after Eliza's death in August 1919, Wm went to live with family at Albury.

Thank you Rusted and Cando I did wonder what William was doing in Albury but now you point it out his daughter Eliza and her husband Thomas Caldwell both died in Albury and are buried at the Albury Pioneer Cemetery. Thank you Cando for the message :) Take Care Lynette

Hello so I got an extract of William's death certificate from Nov 1919 and it says all five children still alive including Alfred who is 51 years old. Take Care Lynette :)

Lyn,
Is the John BURTON on the 1932 Electoral Roll living at Whittlesea yours?
A fruit-grower. Is that correct?
Is this kind of agricultural work what the family mostly did?
It's just that it might help with all the Alfred BURTONs if there was a little hint to work on ;D

Hello yes John was my Great Grandfather Alfred's brother he lived at Kinglake West which is on the roll as Whittlesea. He died in Aug 1934 and is buried at Yan Yean Cemetery. There is also a William who died at Healesville Victoria Nov 1924. A sister Sarah Ann Fairbarn who died 1953 Preston Victoria and a sister Eliza Caldwell who died 12 May 1948 and is buried at Albury Pioneer Cemetery. The only thing I have to go on if it is right is a notice on Trove 1948 for Eliza Caldwell that mentions one sister living. Take Care Lynette

Hi,
Can't help much with tracking Alfred, but it seems he was dead by 1948 when his Sister Eliza CALDWELL died.
Her 1948 death notice says-
...survived by ...... and an older sister Mrs Ann FAIRBAIRN of Preston.....

May or may not be correct information of course. ;)

This funeral notice for William BURTON jnr states Healesville Cemetery. The cemetery staff, I am sure will assist with whatever omission or error has occurred on their online register.

Amelia is, as you say, buried at Box Hill Cemetery where she is located with a chap with whom she shared an address from at least 1931.
He was born in 1882

Hello Sue thank you for that I had not seen the notice on Trove for William and the information on Amelia. Alfred will have to go on the back burner for a while thank you for your help Take Care Lynette :)

I understand that William Burton was married to Elizabeth Hartly prior to the birth of children to Eliza Rogers and subsequent marriage. I descend from Alfred Burton, Alf was my great grandfather. I do not have a birth certificate from him but I do have the birth certificate for my great aunt, one of his children. On this certificate he declares his birthplace to be Goulburn. Towrang is not far from Goulburn.
Happy to answer further questions via Personal Message.
