Title: Mary Isabella Kirby
Post by: Tiddles on Wednesday 04 February 15 22:37 GMT (UK)
Hello,
I need help please to find the birth of Mary Isebella Kirby abt 1757 and her marriage to Joseph Foveaux.

I know she married Joseph Foveaux b 1766- d 1848, however I have not found any record.
Marriage I believe was in Statisfield, Kent, Mary was 28.
She went onto marry William Doust - year 1797, St georges in the East London.
I would appreciate any help please.

Sorry, I'm confused, how did she "go on to marry" in 1797 if Joseph Foveaux didn't die until 1848?

Jo  :)

1841 shows Joseph on his own, burial for Joseph 25/03/1846 aged 80 London, this man was a Lieutenant General in the Army, also he was a convict settler in Australia, there is a lot about him on google, if he is the same man who married Mary of course.

If that Joseph was Mary's husband .She probably considered he had deserted her for Australia. Decided to Marry again and stated she was a widow. I see from one of the Wiki articles that Joseph returned in early 1800,s and then married  Ann Sherwin in 1814 his partner since 1793.They already had a daughter born 1801. Havent found any reference to him having married Mary.

Tiddles.... You state that you KNOW  Joseph Foveaux. married Mary Kirby..... How do you Know. ? Have you any authentication paperwork etc?

There are loads more queries on the following links that may be of help to you Tiddles .
The general concensus appears to be that a "Richard" Forveaux was thew one that married your Mary not Joseph.

Ann Rose who I think may be a relation is buried at St Peters Chellaston Derby. She is described on her grave stone as the daughter of Lt Gen Foveaux, Governor of Sidney (sic), New South Wales. Lt Foveaux appears to have been around somewhat and I can only imagine that he married Anne's mother, a Derby girl. Ann subsequently married into the local Rose family in Chellaston. Ann was born 1800/01 and died 3/4/1837 aged 36.  I am trying to trace a connection to my great grandmother who was born Alice Rose and could easily be Ann's daughter.

Wiki page has him coming back to England 1810.
Then to Ireland after that.

Previously;
In September 1804 Foveaux left Norfolk Island for England to attend to his private affairs and seek relief for the asthma that affected him.
He returned July 1808.

He pursued an uneventful military career after that, rising to the rank of lieutenant-general in 1830.[4] In 1814 he married Ann Sherwin, his partner since 1793, and they had a daughter born in 1801.

He died in London on 20 March 1846 and was buried in Kensal Green Cemetery.

1814 Marriage is on FreeREG Derby, Derbyshire
+ on Anc Bachelor/Spinster

So if Daug born 1801 was Ann Sherwin with him in Australia?

A Joseph Foveaux a witness.
