Hello Flopster,
Just read your posting and although I cannot help directly, I am in possession of a little snippet of information that yo may find useful at sometime.
My Great Great Grandfather Richard Wills married a Sarah Punyer at the Parish Church in Wye Kent on the16th May 1846. One of the witnesses to the marriage was a W, Boyd Terry and he signed his name rather than a mark. Hope this creates some lateral thinking about your ancestors.

TERRY, William Marriage
Wife: Harriet HOWE
Marriage Date: 4 Feb 1821 Recorded in: Kingsdown (near Dartford), Kent, England
Are you sure it wasn't Kingsdown near Deal? That would make more sense under the circumstances.

Um. If Harriet was born c1813, how could they marry in 1821? ???

Yes, if she was born in 1813 the marriage could not legally have been before 1825. However, if the date of birth was estimated from the 1841 census ......

I will be in Deal sometime in the next few days - will see what I can find. I suspect, as these are all old Deal families, that it will be in or very near Deal

In 1841, Harriet's stated age is 30. William is 40.
In 1851, her age is 40. William is 52.
In 1861, her age is 48. William is 63.
In 1871, her age 58. William is 72.
So ... she was born abt 1812 +/- a year or so.
Or about nine years old in February 1821!
Additionally, William was born about 1798 (not 1789) - assume a typo earlier?
-
OK - I'll start looking about 1820 and work forwards. :)
You have to allow for girls lying about their age and remember that a girl could legally be married at age 12. ;)
Once we have the bride's surname, it shouldn't take more than a few minutes to track down her baptism. With these old Deal families, you can often trace the line back several generations in half an hour!

William Redsull Terry was baptised at St Leonard's Deal on 29 May 1798, s/o John & Sara
He was married at St Leonard's on 12 May 1821; his bride was Mary, illegitimate daughter of Mary Bartlett, baptised 16 March 1806. ???
Witnesses to the marriage were Robert Edwards, Mary Ann Terry, Sara Terry and Thomas Terry.
I have not been able to find a death for Mary or a subsequent re-marriage to Harriet.
