I'm trying to track down some further information on this branch of my tree as I have hit a brick wall with them. Any thoughts on where I could research next would be much appreciated.
Morgan Cartwright is born C.1685 - I have been unable to find any record of his birth at present time.
Marries a Susannah Stumper in 1710 at Ellesmere. (No information found on Susannah at present time)
Buried 1738 Dudleston Shropshire.
Their son is also a Morgan Cartwright
Baptism 1712 12 Oct Dudleston
Marries a Sarah (no record found for their marriage)
Living in St Alkmunds Parish in 1739 when a settlement certificate is issued for them both.
Buried 1787 Shawbury.
Any thoughts on how to dig for some more information on these individuals and their wives would be much appreciated.
Many thanks,
Donna

Death for Morgan Cartwright (senior) September 25th 1738 "Morgan Cartwright the husband of Susannah Cartwright was then buried" (Shropshire Burials).
-
Do you have the baptism for Susannah 05/11/1714 daughter of Morgan & Susannah Cartwright?
-
Death for Morgan Cartwright in Shawbury gives a dob of 1704 - "Morgan Cartwright of Muckleton aged 83".

Hi Miriamkinga,
Thank you for looking.
The Children for Morgan Cartwright (snr) and wife Susannah that I have found in the Shropshire registers are :-
Joseph Cartwright
– 1711
Morgan Cartwright
1711 – 1787
Susannah Cartwright
1714 –
Martha Cartwright
1717 –
Mary Cartwright
1717 – 1718
Samuel Cartwright
1728 –
John Cartwright
1730 – 1730
Also a nice point to see if that Morgan Cartwright Junior has twins in 1745 and names them Morgan and Susannah after his parents.
My research points are more towards the parentage of Morgan Cartwright Snr and any information on his wife Susannah Stumper. And also the mystery Sarah that Morgan Cartwright jnr weds.

At the moment I'm not quite sure what to make of the 1704 date, Im pretty sure (with the before mentioned naming of the twins) that I have the right Morgan Cartwright Jnr, however he wasn't baptised till 1712.....

Wonder if this might fill in one of the time gaps in the children?

Richard in 1722?

Didn't have Popham, what a strange name. :)
-
This is also my family, but I have made no progress back in time.
The first name Popham could be a surname back in the family history. I did try, but no clues.
This link for bastardy examinations etc. might help for the Cartwright family.

Hi Alberbury,
I popped across to Shropshire archives to take a look at
Churchwardens and Overseers of Shrewsbury St. Alkmund acknowledge that Morgan Cartwright and wife Sarah are legally settled in that parish
http://search.shropshirehistory.org.uk/collections/getrecord/CCA_XP241_L_8_31/
An interesting document to see but not one that yields any further information.
I was also looking at the the account books of the Emanuel Methodist church which may be of interest to you if you are related to the William Wellings descendant of the above.
Hope this is of help,
Donna

Have looked again through my notes.
I am not so confident at getting back my Cartwright line to Ellesmere.

The Morgan Cartwright who is buried in Duddleston on 25 September 1738 is my 8x Great Grandfather.
Popham who was baptised in Ellesmere on April 8th 1725 appears in the Diocese of Chester Bishop's Transcripts.
Her marriage appears in the copy of the Audlem Register given at the visitation at Middlewich on May 2nd 1750.
It states she married in Audlem on May 15th 1749 by Banns to John Peak. Popham was buried in Audlem on May 15th 1772
I am descended from Morgan's son Richard. Like you I am stumped by Susanna(h) Stumper.
