Hi everyone, I would like to know if anyone recognises a place by the name Assegai Kraal in the district of Pietermaritzburg in Natal, an ancestor was born there in 1855 but can find nothing about the place or if it still exists or changed its name.
Kind regards
Duncan

Duncan,
There is an area called Assagay near Hillcrest in Kwa-Zulu Natal between Durban & Pietermaritzburg. This may be what you are looking for.

Perhaps this is what you looking for? Camperdown is about 10 km from Pietermaritzburg.

Thank you both of you :)
I doubt it would be a reference to Assagay, as that is just to near Durban to ever have been part of the district of PMB, the farm in Camperdown sounds like it could be right, as the village of Camperdown did not exist till later so the farm would be used as a place of reference.

If you live near PMB I would go to the archives and get the records of all of them and have a look.
