Title: City of London Marriage 1811 Lookup
Post by: Ange The Cat on Friday 30 January 15 19:46 GMT (UK)
Hi, Could anyone look up a marriage from 1811 between Edward Henderson & Sarah Earles in Saint Dionis BackChurch, London. I would appreciate any detail you can give me to enable me to go back over in time. Edward, I believe, was born and bred in Reading in Berkshire, but I get an impression that Sarah's family was affluent and from London. They settled in Reading after their marriage.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thank you

Edward Henderson bachelor and Sarah Earles spinster both of this parish were married in this church by banns this [23 September 1811].

Both signed, as did their witnesses W.C. Earles, Elizabeth Earles, E. Earles and Rd Webb.

Thank you for that, I wonder if you can help me. I'm trying to link Edward & Sarah to the Hendersons in Reading in Berkshire. Consistently after their marriage Sarah states that she was born in reading, I just wondered why therefore if this is the Edward & Sarah i'm looking for, why would they get married in London? I havent access at the moment to any of the "ancestry" sites so I wonder if this is the Hendersons/Earles that I need? Would you have access to the birth record of Sarah Earles ? What a funny family they are !

She's "50" in the 1841 census as you say - but adult ages in that census were often rounded down to the nearest 5 yrs so could be 50-54.

In each of 1851, 1861 and 1871 her age is consistent with a birthdate of 1785-6. Always Reading, as you have said.

Her age at death in Dec qtr 1873 was 88 - so birth c1785.

What is the basis for thinking that the Sarah Henderson seen in Reading had maiden name Earles?

Its been a while since I've picked up on the family history to be honest, but someone had done an IGI check about 5 year ago and thats what they came up with .... it might be a red herring, but as I've no access to Parish Registers at all and I live 4 hours away i was really hoping someone could either help via the internet or if they were meandering through the Berkshire Archive at some point , that they could look it up for me and see if I can go any further back ...
