Hi All, Im new to this site and I was looking for a bit of help. I have spent a lot of time trying to locate a birth cert for my grandmother Bertha Joyce.
she died 31/08/1980 and her age was given as 86. I have checked all records going back to 1894 to 1900 and cannot find anything that matches her.
the information I have is that her birthday was 1st Jan. Her father was a James Joyce a soldier and he was deceased when she married timothy moran 26/11/1915. Its possible that she was registered with a differant christian name as this is what seems to be how she registered her own children with one name and then called them something else totally,

Have you an address from the marriage cert for her and the names of any witnesses.

Could this be her mispelt

her marriage cert has her address as 4 morans cottages, ranelagh. sponsers are jeremiah o dwyer and margaret byrne

Her father may be the key to this.
Have you looked for his Military Sevice, if it exists it could tell you where the family was ( sometimes family went too) at the time Bertha was born.
She could have been born in England.
Even if you only got his reginment it might be possible to find where it was stationed at any given time.

Margaret Byrne as witness
At the time of 1939 register of electors 4 Moran's Cottages was occupied by a Thomas and Mary Byrne two very hard name's to research in Dublin,i cant seem to pick up 4 Moran's Cottages on the Electoral Rolls 1912 to 1915 maybe someone else here may be able to do so.
Timothy,Bertha and Josephine seem to be at 1 Rathgar Road in 1939.
Have you tried contacting the church ? where they were married in 1915 to see if you could get her mothers name.
I personally have had some success visiting the church where some relatives were married as late as 1940s but not all are interested in providing this service ,a lot dont even acknowledge emails or letter's even when offering a fee for this service but as i say nothing ventured nothing gained.
Dathai.
