Title: A date for my boy please...
Post by: jennywren001 on Wednesday 28 January 15 20:49 GMT (UK)
Apologies for the quality I do have a good scan but it's too big to send so I've had to take a snip of the photo - sadly, I am not in possession of the original.  I'm trying to work out which of two brothers are in this picture with their brother William.  William, the boy standing was born in 1885 the other brother is either George born 1871 or David born 1879. If I could get an accurate date for the photo I could work out who is who.
Thanks
Jen

Just going by faces, I find it easier to imagine the seated man as six years older than the standing one rather than fourteen years older.  I realize that's rather subjective, though.

Yes I would agree with that.

Thanks everyone, if that's David this is most likely 1900 as David is in Belfast by the 1901 census then married in Belfast and off to Canada in 1904 (unless he came back to Dundee in between times). So left to right in 1900 they would be 16, 15, 18, 23 and 21....

That looks very possible.

And he could have gone back to Dundee, couldn't he - it is only a hop skip and a jump away isn't it?? (written from Australia!   ;))

It does, particularly since it's customary for the elder ones to be seated, so fits like a glove IMHO.
