Does anyone know if there are passenger lists from New Zealand to Victoria around 1935?
My grandfather, who I knew as Jim FORSYTH, came to Australia around that time and was working with horses at Ballarat for a couple of years it seems. He married my grandmother in Port Melbourne in 1937. I began my research about 15 years ago and uncovered that he was born James Richard MUSSON. I'm not sure if he changed his name after he got here, but it was James FORSYTH on his marriage cert. So I don't actually know what name he used to come over but I don't think he "officially" immigrated. I think he arrived, changed his name, stayed and just blended in. Probably easier to do back then.
I constantly trawl Trove, PapersPast, PROV, NAA, SLV, nothing to say I am searching properly of course but can't think of any other avenue.
Any help or suggestions appreciated.

"... he was born James Richard MUSSON" How have you determined this please?

Marriage certificate # 11597 dated 1937 in Port Melbourne, Vic, Aus - in my possession
married on the 24th of September, 1937 at the Presbyterian Manse, Port Melbourne, Victoria, Australia.
James Forsyth
Age 33
born NZL
Labourer
Usual address - Wolseley Cresent, Blackburn
Parents - James FORSYTH, farmer and Margaret MUSSON.
Brenda DANIELS
Age 31
Born Kensington
widowed December 17, 1931.
One deceased child from former marriage.

Parents - John ADAMS, bricklayer, deceased and Mary Agnes MORGAN.
Another researcher, 15 years ago, had the names James MUSSON and Margaret FORSYTH in her tree. A phone call to Rangiora, the town in NZL my grandfather said he was from, made contact with my grandfather's sister in law who knew his story. He left NZL and never contacted family again.
so I had found who he actually was, purchased his birth certificate:
James Richard MUSSON 23 Aug 1906 at Belfast, Canterbury NZL
Father - James Christopher MUSSON, labourer, age 31 born Cust.
Parents married March 1899, Kaiapoi
Mother - Margaret Ann Hay FORSYTH, age 29 born marshlands
Electoral roll entries for him in NZL were 1928, age 22 and 1935, age 29, labourer at West Belt, Rangiora. His father, James Christopher MUSSON, farmer, at the same address.
A Mr H VANOTTI of Park Parade, Ballarat East, Vic, Aus, sent a letter to the family that told “how the boy was getting on”. Unfortunately undated. Given to me by J.C MUSSONs granddaughter.
"Dear Sir,
Mr. J. C. Musson just a line to let you know how the boy is getting on over here so I thought I would drop you a line for him to let you know he is getting on over here. Well Sir he is getting a bit homesick and he may be over at Xmas or in March as he may travel a 3 year Stallion this season as he is looking after him now. He has had a good run for work over here this last two years he is working on a farm at the present time. The boy and myself is going to the Melbourne Royal Show next month. I am taking two horses their. I do no know weather we can win or not as I know it is a lot of work getting them ready. Well Boss we had a very cold wet winter over here this year and it has been very hard on stock at Ballarat and I have been hand feeding 18 horses this winter and I got a three year old colt from over their not far from where you are . The boy knows the place but I can not think of the name he is one of the horses I am taking to the show he is very nice well this is all this time write to the above address.
I am yours
Etc H Vanotti"
1931 to 1937 Aus electoral roll - only VANOTTI in Park Parade was Robert Henry, driver
There is no longer a Park Parade, Ballarat East, it was re-named Fortune Street
My father was born 1939. His birth certificate says fathers occupation is labourer.

Thanks so much Cando, I didn't have much of that Vanotti information. The Brenda and James Forsyth at Glenrowan are mine, they moved nearly every twelve months for a few years.
