I was just talking about this woman, well I think it must have been her.
It's my mother's birthday today so the chat turned to what you get when you reach 100, I remember a while back seeing a woman of 112 on one of the English channels complain the Birthday card from the Queen had the same Royal photo on it each year :D she appeared to be quite a character.

Just think what a joy it would have been to have long chats with that lady - her memory would have been a treasure chest.

My mother in law passed away aged 93 two years ago - she was as sharp as a tack and had total recall of her life.  Her vivid descriptions of her childhood in central Edinburgh during the 1920's and her knowledge of her own parents early lives was invaluable from a family history perspective.  I had 25 years worth of conversations with her that were a complete joy.  RIP Jane.

Worldwide are there any people born in the 19th century still surviving?

Yes.   Misao Okaw of Japan, born 5 March 1898, is apparently the oldest living person in the world whose age can be documented.

One of my likely relatives from Ireland (likely because the family name is rare and the family were farmers in this parish from way back), his headstone claims he was 114 at death.

This year I will attend my uncles (same side of family as the likely relative above) 80th birthday, and you'd honestly think he was 40ish.  Fit, youthful, swims laps of his pool every morning, scales roofs and does hard labour daily.  Sharp of mind, sharp dresser etc.  Just, not you're average 80 year old.

There are three areas in the World where people seem to live far longer than anywhere else.  Well, that is what they claim - well into their 200's !!!    All mountain areas - in India, South America, and I think the third is Georgia or thereabouts.

I beg your pardon.    I shall be 82 in June this year, and I spent close on 3 hours in the garden from 6.15 am this morning,  cutting and sawing away at an overgrown Wisteria.   But I do have to confess that I find it hard to understand quantum mechanics in relation to an implicate and enfolded Universe.   I'll keep at it though.

Third one is indeed the Caucasus! All of these places suffer another fault too. Lake of adequate documentation.

Lol oops.  Well my Uncle is exceptional like yourself!  He really is 'fit as a fiddle', a LOT fitter than my 36 year old self.

How many people age 100 or over are still living in their own home.
In my neighbourhood one lady age 101 is living with her 96 year old sister in their own home.

Home help in morning & evening only. :)

I understand that the now oldest person in Britain lives in her own flat, albeit in her son's house.  So I guess she manages on her own, although the family probably help out quite a lot.

My late mother lived in her senior citizen's bungalow until shortly after her 99th birthday.
