Have the above living in the Tonbridge area of Kent with Philadelphia Stevens (Phyllis) in 1881. She is listed as a housekeeper and was born 1862. The census suggests he had been married before and she had an illegitimate child, maybe his. Can anybody help with previous marriage please.

Given the ages of the children, the most likely death for his late wife appears to be that of Hannah Stapley aged 32, Tonbridge, Dec qtr 1878.
