Title: Tree on Ancestry COWIE/CHARLTON
Post by: Irish Geordie on Thursday 15 January 15 13:18 GMT (UK)
Hello folks,

I've been following up my maternal side.

A tree on Ancestry owned by whrutherford1 links into mine via a marriage between John Cowie and Agness McBryan. Their daughter Catherine (Born France 1817) married a George Charlton (my mother's link)

I don't do Ancestry other than free through the local library, I'm wondering if whrutherford1 uses Roots Chat too?

Thanks

RootsChat has a Surnames Interest Table - have you checked your surnames on there?

Access by http://surname.rootschat.com/, or the link  the bottom of every RC page.

While you are there, why not add your own interests?
The more people that use it, the better for us all! ;D

Catherine Cowie and George Charlton were my 2x great grandparents and I have done extensive research on both families.  George was born in Cockfield, County Durham, about 1809, and Catherine was born in an army camp near St Omer, France when her father was a sergeant in the army of occupation after Waterloo.  I will be happy to share my family tree, which is on 'ancestry'.

Kathmb,

My tree back to John and Catherine goes something like this I think;

Gparents            John Frederick Thompson=Edna Gibson
Ggparents          Robert Thompson=Mary Hannah Charlton
Gggparents        George Frederick Agna Charlton=Mary Blenkinsop
Ggggparents      George Charlton=Catherine Cowie

The Thompsons go back to Middleton in Teesdale as far back as I can trace and the family had strong links with Shildon, Cockfield, Bishop Auckland.

Hopefully this connects correctly with yours.

Our trees definitely connect.  I have many photos of Mary Hannah Charlton who married Robert Thompson, she was known as Hannah and was my grandmother's older sister.  The two sisters were very close.  I remember meeting Aunt Hannah when I was 4 or 5 years old.  If you would like any more information I am happy to help.
