I'm trying to trace members of the Hackney family from the Tunstall area of Stoke, also the Thorntons of Silverdale.

Yes.......
George Hackney b 1866 m1890 Charlotte Thornton b.1869
had about 13 children of which my grandmother was Mary b1893.
Charlotte was the daughter of Henry Thornton b 1839 - wife name unknown.
George Hackney b. 1830 in Marton Cheshire m. Mary Holland b. 1838 of Tunstall ( would like to find her parents) . Had 4 or 5 children. Would like to trace their son Henry. Parents of the above George.
Mary Holland was a beerseller at The Plough Inn ( where?)
anything you could help with would be great.

Hi Alexis, I am a Hackney from Tunstall ancestors. My gggrandfather William Hackney brought his family up there, but I have yet to find out where he was born, and his parents. He lived approx 1835 to 1878. His wife was Mary Ann Webb, and they had children Charles, Hannah (married a Baskeyfield), James, Thomas, William,Frederick, Emma and Elizabeth. They lived mostly in Clay Hills.

Hello Keith,
As small an area as it is I can't see a direct relationship between your family and mine. Obviously there may be unaccounted for brothers.... I do have a William Hackney, he was born in Marton Cheshire in the early1800's or even late 1790's, not verified at all and supposed to have died in KNutsford jail, after fathering two sons, one who disappeared with the alleged family fortune - well his mother's family fortune apparently and the other George, my gggrandfather ( Marton 1830-1876). It would make your WIlliam about the right age. George's brother's name was not known. But not uncommon to be named after your father ? You don't happen to be hiding the family fortune do you?!!
If I come across another Willaim Hackney I shall tell you first.

Hi Alexis,
No such luck! My Wm's father was quoted as "William Hackney, deceased" on marriage cert 1852. George isn't a name that appears in the line afterwards.
We'll just have to keep looking!
