Title: Rifle Brigade
Post by: rogerb on Wednesday 14 January 15 13:54 GMT (UK)
Just doing a bit of Ancestry browsing and I came across the medal roll for Bertrand Hassan, Private B2373 Rifle Brigade (Prince Consorts Own).  Until now I didn't realise that he did any military service, but unfortunately there seems to be no further information or dates on the roll.

I haven't been able to find any other info about this period, so I wonder if anyone else could help.

Regards

Roger

There is an army record for a Bertrand Venus(?) Hassan, father William Charles, younger brother Irving - in the 7th battalion Royal Fusiliers though.

Hi - thanks for the reply.  Are you searching Ancestry?  Because I've tried a number of search parameters and can't seem to find it!  I have the service record of Irving but can't find the Bertrand one that you refer to!  Could you post the link please.

Thanks folks - I have found that record now.  However, that is from 1904 and I am still looking for the  WW1 record.

Might explain why a later record may not exist?

Thanks for the pictures.  Can I infer from the last one (Silver Roll) which is dated January 1918, that Hassan was discharged from the army prior to the end of the war?

Hi Roger

He was discharged in December 1917. SWB were awarded until mid 1919, so after the fighting stopped.
