I am over the moon today because I went to the record office and viewed a huge book of photos of prisoners from the late Victorian years, and found some pics of a couple of the bad lads in my tree  :). In another prison record book I found a detailed physical description of one of my lot too.

The records office sells a CD with the indexes to prison records, which is how i found the pics.

Being able to see these photos has really made my day!  ;D ;D ;D

That sounds interesting, I think one of mine may have spent time in Leicester prison.  I'll have to check and find out.

Hi what is the name of the cd please ? I would like to send for one. Kind regards from Sue.

It's listed here, close to the bottom of the page - CD4

bear in mind that there are no photos on the disc; but there are details of prison sentences etc in the stated time period, and whether a photo exists and you then need to get to the archives office to see  the photos.

Thankyou very much indeed Annie it sounds very interesting.

Does the CD have to be bought or is there one at the Record Office you can view?

-
I'm pretty sure it's for purchase only.
