Hi all,
My 3x gt uncle Nicholas Doyle (1859-1931) described one of his son's in 1911 as follows:
Harry Doyle; age 26 (born 1884); single; Artist; the next column I would swear says 'In body Lagos Municipal W.Africa', but I could be wrong, see the attachment below. Nicholas finishes by putting the words away & abroad in the next two columns.
Harry was born in Manchester. I cannot find a passenger list or any reason as to why he was in Africa. Can anyone assist?
There is a final possibility though, Harry may have come back, when I don't know exactly as I haven't located a return passenger list either. This is because there is a possible marriage in the Chorlton reg dist in 1918 to a Lydia Agnes Longmire. I cannot check this out properly as according to the LancsBMD website the marriage was at Chorlton On Medlock Register Office or Registrar Attended.
Many thanks in advance.
Kind regards
David

Keyboard86, sorry for barging in, but I have a related question. Would you know where I could find passenger list of British ship sailing from North Africa to Liverpool transporting WW2 prisoners of war? Thank much.

To be honest with you the answer would be no, but I would also suggest rather than possibly clogging this thread up with possible replies, you start a new thread with your own needs?!

Hi Keyboard86,
To be honest, this branch of the family (ie, Harry & his siblings) is one that I am only just starting looking at. It was just the unusual entry for Harry written by his father Nicholas that caught my eye & started me looking for passenger lists etc! ;D So as to Harry's death & possible remarriage I have no idea at present.
Kind regards
David
