Title: Lily Green b1895.d1936 Lancashire County Asylum
Post by: henery on Monday 05 January 15 11:28 GMT (UK)
Hello
I had a great aunt Lily Green born 1895 Aston. I managed to trace her death to Lancashire County Asylum,Winwick,Warrington,Lancashire.  Death pulmonary tuberculosis 24 Oct 1936.
According to family knowledge she never married but did live at some time with Walwyn or Walwin and had I believe 3 daughters.
Vera,Lily and Clarice.
Her address at time of death 7 John Street,Rusholme, Manchester. Stated as the widow of Ellis Green.
Ellis unknown probably fictional.
Is it possible to find out who was also living at this address in 1936 and before?
Thanks for your help.

Many thanks for your rapid reply.
The information you have supplied is absolutley 'spoton'!!
Is it possible to identify the person living at the address 7 John St.,Rusholme Manchester. Maybe a Ellis Green Estate Agent?

In 1929 there was a Councillor in Manchester called Ellis Green - perhaps that's where she got the name from.  ;)

John St Rusholme was a tiny street off Claremont Rd (in fact there were two John Streets very close to one another, one near the Rusholme end of Claremont Rd and one at the Moss Side end of the same road).

There is an entry in the 1929 Manchester directory for the Moss Side John St - no 7, Reginald James Gauntlett, window cleaner - but there are no listings at all for the Rusholme John St.

The 1929 directory does list a Miss Lily Green, shopkeeper, at 128 Lower Moss Lane, Hulme. This is not too far away from either of the John Streets.

Hi Barbara.H
Thanks for your detailed information regarding the address John St.
I think finding the shop nearby listed to a Lily Green in 1929 seems highly probable!
Is there anyway I can pusue this further?
Thanks
Henery  :)

Hi heatherjulie

The name Ellis Green seems too close to ignore.
The details from the hospital give she was the widow of Ellis Green. As she died in 1936
then presumbably he died sometime before?

I don't know any more about the address in Lower Moss Lane I'm afraid.  The three daughters you name are not showing up anywhere obvious either - although as they might still be alive, it limits how much we can do with them on this forum.

Councillor Ellis Green, lord mayor of Manchester 1931-1932, died in 1963 aged 84 according to newspaper reports.

Ellis Green was an Estate Agent.. he had died by 1939 when Clarice married.. she was born Clara Green.. Clara (Clarice) was a twin and had twin daughters. I am in touch with her descendants if you wish to know more.

Hi Richard
Many thanks for your reply re Lily Green b1895.
From the information you have given this is certainly the family I am looking for. It ties in with general family knowledge abut Clara and the twins, which my fathers stepsister Vera (died 2009) told me.
I would love to hear more about what happened to the family. My father was very close to Vera and her sister also named Lily b1913.
Once again 'many thanks' for your info. I look forward to your reply.
If you want to reply personally I believe as a new member you need 3 posts . So just send 2 messages. Maybe "Hello Henery nice day today" a couple of times then you are allowed to send a PM.

Regards Henery  :) :) :)

Hi Henery.. I'm not directly related to Clara.. it's was her husband that I have a connection with.. however, I am in touch with Clara's twin daughters.

Richard.
