I am looking for any information on Italian Street Musicians. My Grandfather was a Street Musician in Yorkshire betwean 1888 and 1898 working in Dewsbury and Leeds and perhaps other towns in the region.

Hello George,
I have just read your entry on this site.
I wondered if you knew that there is now an Anglo-Italian Family History Society and they have a very large data base of names.
If you can trace your Italian ancestor back to a specific place in Italy, it is possible to order film of the parish register through the LDS Family Centres. We have just 'done' my husband's family this way.
What was the Italian surname ? I don't think you mentioned it.
You can also look up the Italian version of the phone book and find the names and addresses etc. of people with the same surname still living in any specific place.
I am at: (*)
Hope to hear from you.

Thank you Geraldine.
I am a member of the Anglo Italian Family History Society and I have been through all the normal channels. My problem is finding out where he came as there seems to be no trail. I have someone looking at various places Italy and have tried Latter Day Saints Web site with no luck. I am just hoping that it might click with some family member and that there could be some information somewhere.
I note the moderator has removed the personal email address, I thought this was an option although not advised so I will give you mine.

Is anyone still following this thread as to Italian street musicians in England in late 1800's? You will find much fascinating information in the book "Little Slaves of the Harp," by John Zucchi. Portions of it are online if you search GoogleBooks. It is about the "white slave trade" in Italian child street musicians about 1850-1890 (they were essentially street beggars, run by a padrone a la Fagin, to oversimplify). These kids were bought and sold all over the world. Quite a story.
