I am looking for Michael Moran's marriage details to Bridget Comb in the early 1800s but have had no luck. I found Michael through his son Owen whose marriage entry in 1884 to Jessie Wilson gave his age as 22. The family appear to be based in Strathaven but the Christian names suggest a possible Welsh or Irish background. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Have you found Owen on any census records? Where was he born?
Have you checked Scotlandspeople website?

Thank you Sancti and Annep. It all makes sense now. I found Owen in Scotlandspeople but only his marriage and death entries. Obviously he was born in Ireland 1858 to 1860 so that's my next task.
Bridget Comb's entry was slightly ineligible but now it is easy to see it is McComb so thank you very much for your help as it has let me progress another generation back on my tree and given me many more leads to follow up.

You are welcome Jymbo.
Out of interest, are you following any particular child of Owen Moran and Jessie Wilson?
Ancestry holds the WW1 military docs for their son William. ( fairly certain it's him)
It provides his 1918 marriage info and a Glasgow address for his mother

I know Owen's children were Alexander (my grandfather), Thomas, Andrew, John, Lizzie and William. I am just starting to explore them so thanks very much for the William information. My main goal was to find Owen and his parents which had me stumped for some time as the name was changed from Moran to Morran by his wife after his death in 1893 (I don't know why). I now know Owen was also called Andrew. I am 99% sure your information on his parents is correct but I still can't find his birth details which should be around 1858-1861. I have lots to do to follow up your earlier leads. Cheers.

Oops. I accidentally posted via my wife's computer . Please note the JPMorran post was mine. Apologies.

Pardon my ignorance but I just found out Owen and Eugene in Ireland are interchangeable as first names. Eugene Moran baptised in 1860 fits my Owen Moran in age and parents names so all is now 100% in agreement.

When I found the Irish marriage and subsequent births, I had an idea that Owen and Eugene may be the same child.
William Moran is listed as being 12 years old on the 1901 census in Strathaven.
According to the Military papers, William Morran was born in Strathaven and was 19 yrs and 1 month when he first signed up ( RH and RFA) on 24 Jul 1907 and was discharged 23 Jul 1919 .
He spent most of his early career in India before being sent to France.
William was awarded the Military Medal in 1917
His mother Jessie, brothers John and Thomas lived at: 14 Earston Ave, Glasgow
He married Lizzie Taylor in Glasgow 1 Jul 1918
Edit:
William's wife lived at: 12 Cobden St, Calton, Glasgow

Thanks Anne. Ties in nicely with his brother Alexander's marriage certificate stating a home address of 12 Cobden st.

I was researching Owen Moran as well, because he's my great great grandfather, through his son Andrew. Did anyone find anything on Michael Moran's parents or Bridget Mccombs?
