Hi Goda
I'm researching Edward Bowyer born Raglan, 1819. I drew a blank to start off with as the 1851 census data had place of birth London and age 20, but everything else fitted.
I'm finding this angle most difficult. The Robinsons of Whitby are a bit easier.

Many thanks Trish & Cevce. Will do Trish.

Hi Goda,
I have just found your post and I think your Edward's ancestors came from Luntley in Herefordshire.
Edward Bowyer the elder of Luntley married Mary Williams of Arthea Farm in Tregare, Monmouthshire in 1707. Mary died young and in 1751 their son Edward Bowyer the younger sued his father and stepmother for his share of the large marriage settlement that was supposedly left in trust for him by his mother. He seems to have won and subsequently lost all the property and then disappeared but today I found records of an Edward Bowyer in and around Raglan in the mid 1700s who was closely connected with Mary's nephew's family.
Edward the younger's eldest son was also named Edward and I am descended from another younger brother named Thomas Bowyer who moved to Sedgley in Staffordshire. Until today we had no idea where the third Edward may have gone but Raglan is now looking very likely. There might be an extended series of Edward Bowyers. I'd love to learn what you know about Edward born in 1819.
cheers

Welcome to Rootschat Steve,
Goda hast been on Rootschat since Jan 2015.
Hopefully if they are still around and/or have the same email address they will reply to you.
I have no idea if they got the 1849 M/C but it looks to me that all the info posted in 2015 is correct.

Thanks Trish, it might be a wild goose chase for me but the thrill is in the chase. it's a fair old hike from Raglan to Whitby. I wonder what took them there.
-
Hi Steve,
I enjoy the chase too thats why I help people here on Rootschat.
People moved a lot more than we give them credit for in those days for work/love/new opportunities etc.

I came across this post while researching the Bowyers. My brother in law is the Great Grandson of Elizabeth Augusta Bowyer from Broom House Usk. She was the daughter of Edward Bowyer and Elizabeth Theakston. I am very interested in where your family come into the Tree.
He has photos of Elizabeth, and other members of the family I think.
Any information that you have we would be interested in.
Thank you

Elizabeth Augusta Bowyer married Joseph Hoyle in York on the 5th December 1854
Her Father was Edward Bowyer and mother Isabella Theakston. Yes his first wife Mary died, I think in childbirth.
Edward's Father was John Bowyer and mother Minerva Perrin.
I am confused about the marriage of Edward to Isabella Theakston,as I have them getting married at St Georges, Southwark, London. Even more confusing is a family marriage notice for Hereford.
Is this family related to you?
Thank you
-
No I am not related to the Family.
Yes I see the Marriage was in London but the other notice is from a Newspaper about the Marriage.
You mention Herefordshire maybe just another notice?
-
Thank you Trish. I was hoping to get a reply from Steve Hyde in Canberra,as it looks like there could well be a connection. We went to look at the Arthea Farmhouse in Tregare last week, and all the other properties that this family seemed to own at some point. All I can do is hope that he might see this.
-
Hi again, yes Steve hasnt been on here for awhile.
Have you tried a PM as you have made 3 post on here it is activated for you now.
-
Thank you, I assume that is 'send a message'? I'll try that
-
I don't know if you are still looking at this.
I'm descended from Thomas Bowyer of Sedgley, the same line as Steve. His father was Edward the Younger and Edward the Younger's parents were Edward the Elder, of Luntley, Herefordshire and Mary Williams of Tregare, Monmouthshire. We have long suspected that they were other Bowyers in the Raglan/Usk area as they were mentioned in papers, wills...
After a rest I have started to look at this again! Edward B, b. 1794, Trellick, married, firstly, Mary Theakston, 11:04:1816, St John the Baptist, Gloucester. They appear to have had 2 children, William and Edward. He then marries Isabella Theakston, 22:06:1823, St George the Martyr, Southwark, I assume the 2 Theakstons were related, possibly sisters. It is the same Edward as the signature is the same. What is interesting is that on 22:06:1823, at St George the Martyr, Southwark, Edward was christened, son of Edward and Isabella. I think this was a way of Edward's step mother taking responsibility for him. The only fly in the ointment is why wasn't William also christened.
By 1841 the family are living in Usk, apart from Edward the son, I have found records that place them there. Sometime in the next 10 years they moved to the North East??????????
Hope this helps!

I have sent you a Private message. I shope that you get it.

Hello Oxeye,
Took some doing but I received your message but am unable to send you a PM.
It's a fascinating line. If you can bridge to gap between Edward's father John and Edward the Younger, son of Edward and Mary Williams there is enough to keep you busy all winter!
Happy Hunting.
