thank you in advance !
Hopefully this version will upload.
It really is a shame that these boys went to war, I've brothers as young as these men in this photograph, and remember them when they were the age of the youngest in this photo. It really gets me.

Hi Gavin
Hope this is okay. I should have gotten you to email me a large uncompressed file, as this one badly pixelated when being manipulated.

And one with texture and different tone.

Hi Cas,
they are brilliants. I am so impressed by your skill. I can email you the copy I have if you are keen to have a go at it. It is brilliant to be able to see these with the creases.
-
:) That's amazing Caz, what program do you use to do this?
I sent the image to Gavin and he put it on here, it's of my mum's uncle's regiment, it's the only surviving picture of him, but we don't know for sure which one he is, it was kept with his medals and the letter to his parents telling them he was killed in action.
Middlesex regiment 7th battalion.
I've got this scanned to 4.1M and could maybe go bigger if you fancy taking it on. ;D

Hi Gavin, Steve and Sarah
Thank you all for your kind words, means a lot. :) :)
Steve, welcome and I'll pm you with my email, I might be able to get better detail with the larger file. I used Photoshop Elements 10. It's an excellent program, although it doesn't contain all the features of the full Photoshop, but then the price tag reflects this.
Happy New Year! :D

Hi Sarah,
After many years of family research through all the usual web sites, I found it all going a bit stale for me, hitting brick walls etc :(, but then Gavin put me on to this forum and it's kick started my interest again,I'm impressed to say the least :D ;D, I can't believe I haven't found it before :-[

Steve/Gavin
By any chance is the chap you are looking for in the full regiment photo the same chap that I did the coloured post card photo for?
Caz
-
The best I can say is yes and no :-\
We know that my mums uncle (GHS Cox)is in the regimental photo, as it was kept with all his medals and letters, he didn't survive the war and nobody knows which one he is.
Then I got in touch with his sisters grand daughter, she had his sisters old photo's which I promptly scanned. Amongst the collection were maybe two possibilities of a photo of her brother, when I compared the picture's with the regimental picture I couldn't get a positive ID.
So we're non the wiser other than one of them is the spitting image of my uncle Bert ;)
Yes the picture you restored and coloured (so well) is one of the two possibilities, and just to complicate things further ,his sisters husband was also in the middlesex regiment so it could well be him.
-
Okay, well for what it's worth, IMO the chap in the bottom row, fourth from the right has very similar features to the chap in the postcard, particularly the ears and nose, plus bearing in mind that in the comparison photo attached, the chap's mouth in the postcard is my interpretation.

Yes I see what you mean, but you probably need to see the other pictures to see the whole picture :-\
This is Fred husband of GHS Cox's sister
-
This is the other unknown
-
And then there's the uncle Bert theory :)
Here's a photo of my uncle Bert when he would have been about the same age as GHS Cox, see if you can see him in the regiment photo ;)

A clean up for you as I liked this one....Bin it if you don't want it.

Just sent you a message about the three C's AKA Carolyn, Caroline and Carol as I didn't realise you had responded here. ;D ;D
We are three different people, and it was the lovely Carol (Treetotal), that cleaned the last couple of pics for you, so thanks belong to her and I cannot take credit!
Caz ;D ;D
-
:-[ Sorry Carol, it would appear that I've stepped into a restoration trap ;)
My apologies and thank you

Ah no problem there Steve...it's a mistake made by many...we are interchangeable and no get precious about ;)
